B&C Show Blog & Audio: 'Melo' Times Are Finally Here

Bobby Dwyer

Finally...After months of rumors, chatter and hearsay; Carmelo Anthony is a member of the New York Knickerbockers, along with Chauncey Billups and a few others.  It did come at a cost though, but all good things do and now the Knicks have provided Amar'e Stoudemire, who is just 28 years-old, with his running mate, who is two years younger by the way.  So the future looks bright in the Big Apple and Boomer & Craig are blushing about it.  Like I said the Knicks were forced to part with some good players (Felton, Chandler, Gallinari, Mozgov - Anthony Randolph & Eddy Curry in a deal w/ Minnesota) and valuable assets (two 2nd round draft picks & a 2014 1st rounder as well as some cash) but with that said, Boomer was thrilled they did not part with Landry Fields and now they will reshuffle the deck and get focused on assuring this team makes the playoffs, they are currently 28-26, with the Milwaukee Bucks (21-34) coming to town tomorrow night.  So it was a 'Melo' morning here on the B&C Morning Extravaganza as Craig declares today a great day in New York and one of the greatest days in Knicks history…

Plus, burning questions: what number will 'Melo' wear and is Michael Kay an animal???  Men have back problems and Al 'Hughes' Dukes has a taser, Craig makes a suggestion to the Knicks upper-brass on how amp-up 'Legends Night', Michael Kay shows his sensitive side, Peter Vecsey calls in to talk about the 'Melo' deal and things get heated, Hank Steinbrenner offers a helping hand, John Starks talks about becoming a 'Legend', a Moment courtesy of Jerry and an 'Attention Grabber' with a suitcase…

When playing in Denver and collegiately up in Syracuse Carmelo wore the #15, but for the Knicks the #15 is retired (twice), for both Earl 'the Pearl' Monroe & Dick McGuire.  So the question then becomes what number will the 'Melo-Man' be wearing on his back when he takes the court for the first time with the Knicks.  Craig talks about the prospect of Anthony wearing the #30, which was the number worn by Craig's all-time favorite player Bernard King.  Meanwhile, Jerry was patiently waiting to deliver his update, which he eventually got to.  He got started talking about the 'Melo' deal then it was on to Michael Kay and his method of soliciting money from his wedding guests.  Before Jerry was done we heard from Hank Steinbrenner and his thoughts on Derek Jeter's mansion building, Syracuse's win over Villanova, St. Johns cracking the Top 25, the on-going NFL labor talks and the pending press-conference to introduce Carmelo Anthony to New York…

According to a story Tracy provided during her 7 am news cast, more men are experiencing lower back problems, a problem usually reserved for woman with large breasts, due to carrying heavy bags over their shoulders.  Now although Al has not experienced and lower back problems yet, he does lug around a heavy over the shoulder bag on a daily basis.  You might be wondering what Al carries in said bag, it turns out the featured item is a 'taser' that Al carries for protection and he is still single ladies…

If Carmelo makes his Knicks debut tomorrow night at the Garden, it will come on the third annual 'Knicks Legend Night' where former Knicks greats Harry Gallatin, Dick Barnett, Earl Monroe, Mark Jackson, John Starks & Allan Houston will be honored at halftime with 'Knicks Legends Awards'.  Craig thinks the Knicks should spice things up a bit and prior to the game, have Knicks legend Bernard King present Anthony with a Knicks jersey bearing the #30…

A lot has been made of the on-going 'feud' between B&C and Michael Kay and his wedding.  Craig got wind about a week ago that Kay, who was recently married to Jodi Applegate, solicited cash from his wedding guests by registering at Citi Bank.  Yesterday Kay acknowledged the claim and admitted to asking for cash as opposed to the traditional gifts, because he doesn't need anything (other than to pay for his wedding I assume).  Anyway, even after verifying what Craig suspected, Kay was still sore with the guys…

Peter Vecsey is the NBA columnist for the NY Post and an NBA insider if there ever was one, you can check out his piece in today's paper by clicking here.  He arrived back in New York early this morning after covering the All-Star Game and hadn't learned the trade was made until he was boarding the plane.  But once he touched-down, Vecsey drove straight home and called B&C to break it all down.  Although we had no visual proof, I think it's safe to assume Mr. Vecsey was not waving his orange and blue pom-poms while chatting with the guys.  He painted a rather grim picture of the Knicks future despite, and because of the addition of Carmelo.  Then things got a little heated when Boomer questioned one of Vecsey's sources, regarding why LeBron James didn't sign in NY over the summer.  Bottom line is B&C are both thrilled about the deal and Vecsey is not and therein lies the rub…

Hank Steinbrenner (pictured above with his late father) doesn't often speak to the media and that's probably because he generally makes inflammatory remarks and yesterday was no different when the Boss' son had a microphone put in front of his face.  He took a shot at the 'Captain' Derek Jeter and the mansion he was building during last offseason, according Hank, Jeter's concentration should have been solely on helping the Yanks win another World Series.  Craig took the opportunity to morph into Hank and while 'morphed' he offered Michael Kay some financial relief…

John Starks is one of the six Knicks who will be honored by the Knicks tomorrow night at the Garden for the third annual 'Knicks Legends Night'.  He joined B&C to talk about the honor and of course about the Knicks landing Carmelo in a blockbuster deal.  Starks also talked about his old buddy Patrick Ewing and what the future might hold for old #33…
