NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni joined Boomer & Carton Wednesday morning to break down Carmelo Anthony’s transition to New York.
“He is very, very excited about being here,” said D’Antoni. “He’s great with it, he really likes the possibilities we have here in New York.”
Though Anthony was the focus, D’Antoni is excited about the acquisition of Chauncey Billups, a five-time All-Star who remains one of the league’s top point guards.
“People do forget how instrumental he was,” D’Antoni said. “He’s won two titles, he went from Detroit to Denver when they were floundering and made them into a really good team.”
New York dealt forwards Wilson Chandler and Danilo Gallinari, guard Raymond Felton and center Timofey Mozgov to the Nuggets. But they did manage to hold on to rookie Landry Fields.
“We needed to at least keep one or two of those guys,” the coach said. “We tried like heck to keep two of them and we just couldn’t do it.”
The Knicks will introduce Anthony Wednesday night before his debut against the Milwaukee Bucks.
WFAN will carry the press conference live at 5 p.m.
