WEST DEPFORD, N.J. (AP)New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday will hold his first town hall meeting since unveiling his 2012 proposed budget in the hometown of Democratic State Sen. President Stephen Sweeney.

Christie goes to West Deptford after presenting a $29.4 billion budget that would require the Democratic-controlled Legislature to enact major changes to public employees’ pension and health benefits.

It also provides tax cuts for businesses, modest increases in school aid, and potentially more property tax relief.

The governor has proposed making an early contribution to the state’s underfunded pension system if the Democratic Legislature agrees to his pension reform plan for government workers.

The Republican also has proposed doubling property tax rebates for some if the Legislature adopts his health benefits reform plan.
