BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY (WCBS 880) - Some students in New York are upset that their free period has been cut.

The new schedule at Briarcliff High School in Briarcliff Manor denies students a free period.

WCBS 880′s Catherine Cioffi reports

Students are taking their grievance to Facebook. They’re planning a peaceful demonstration on Monday when they go back to school.

They will be protesting the change in schedule from 9 periods to 8 periods.

Many students say they are concerned because they will lose an elective with the new schedule, despite having more class time.

The schedule was voted into the place by the school board.

Demonstration organizers are directing their fellow students to wear black on Monday and sit down on the sidewalk as soon as they get to school.

What do you think? Do the students have a point? Sound off in our comments section.

The protest is an excuse for them not to go to class… maybe 1/4 of the students care but most of them just see it as a way to not go to class and not get in trouble for it. like when students wouldn’t stand for the pledge of allegiance like 5 years ago, it wasn’t because of political reasons it was because they were too lazy to stand.

once again, an uneducated idiot speaks from his butt. Most of todays kids want to learn. You read and hear about the few that dont because thats what the media knows sells. If you were to talk with these students, I am sure you would be in for a surprise. Many of my students want homework and work hard in class. Most of the time it is the parents who complain about homework and projects.Get your facts straight.

I agree. They want to learn. Even the kids, the ones who appear to be lazy, they want to learn too.
