NJ Man Turns Himself In After Allegedly Killing Girlfriend

DUMONT, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Police in New Jersey arrested a 24-year-old man after he allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend at their apartment in Dumont. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said Jordan E. Turner, 24, was arrested after he turned himself in to authorities early Saturday morning.

Shortly after midnight, Turner called police and told a dispatcher that he had shot his girlfriend with an “AR-15” rifle.  He said he couldn’t remember the exact address of his residence, but was able to give authorities enough information for them to find it.

When police arrived at the scene, they found Heather Reyes on the floor in a large pool of blood and the firearm on a mattress near the victim.

Paramedics were called in to check on Reyes’ condition and eventually an Advanced Life Support Unit from Englewood hospital arrived and pronounced her dead.

When Turner called police, he told them that he was at the Garden State Plaza Mall AMC movie theater, where an officer found him on his cell phone. Turner was placed under arrest and taken to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

A friend of Reyes’, who did not want to be identified, said she was trying to make sense of the killing.

“I never really knew about [Turner] up until a couple months ago,” she told 1010 WINS’ Terry Sheridan, “so all of a sudden this guy appeared and I didn’t like him the first sight I seen him.”

Turner, who worked as a cashier at a Pathmark in Bergenfield, has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of an assault firearm. He will be arraigned on Monday and bail was set at $1 million.

I knew a shy blonde kid who was bullied every day from Lincoln school thru BHS. I was never his friend but if you know those families you know how hard it must be for them. No one can understand why but the answer is not to publicly hate but show him kindness and let the justice system do the rest. Maybe 2 lives could have been saved if more people were kind to him. “You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.

im a little bit disgusted by some of these comments. An innocent girl was murdered and people are making jokes? How old are you? To sit behind your computer and have nothing else but comments about our town and job openings? And you think that makes you any better? I think that actually makes you pretty heartless and rediculous to say such a thing. Heather was a daughter which means (if your too caught up in your sarcastic heartless little world to know) right now she has a grieving mother and father who will never be able to see their baby girl grow, get married, or have children. Thats heartbreaking to me. Do some people a favor and tell everyone your real name if you want to make jokes. My heart goes out to heathers family and friends. This is such a terrible tragedy and i will be keeping them in my prayers. NO ONE deserves to have their life taken away from them. I dont care how mean she might have been to him. He should have left her. I also think its a shame the death penalty isnt an option.

dumont is a trashy town filled with trashy people. i didn’t know heather that well but i knew her and she didn’t deserve this.. may she rest in peace

    • Maria

Yea I’m sure that Dumont is a trashy town. And lets generalize everyone in the town, why dont we? Where exactly do you live? You must live in the area. Maybe you shouldn’t worry about all the trash around you and maybe remember that a woman was killed in cold blood. And that this is a tragedy.

  • stan

i saw this guy every week when i went to do my grocery shopping….its so creepy thinking abt it now because i always looked at him and wondered what his deal was…he looked scary but was quiet and seemed nice…i guess you never really know…im still bugging out about this…

  • angeleyes

I think a lot of people above have lost sight in what happened…..because of a senceless murder, a young woman is dead.Killed in cold blood…Obviously this man was extremely troubled, and dangerous..He deserves what the justice system is going to give him….the victim here should not be judged on the fact she dated him……..the one on trial will be the one who murdered her.. May she rest in peace..

  • ur-moms-toy

i knew both of them he was a wierdo and they had a rocky relationship..not that this was justified but she wasnt nice to him and he was unstable…it cudda been avoided if ppl were niceer to eachother..

  • Homie

What did u expect? He was a cashier at a supermarket. Probably went to the movies to get a combo 1 as his last meal as a free man.

  • Dan

Such a horrible tragedy… Both of these young people could have had their entire lives ahead of them; but now instead, countless lives have been ruined and irrevocably scared. God help us all.

  • brit

I’ve known heather over 10 years. The man that she was wit was abusive. I understand that the death penalty was taken out of jersey. But he should not sit in jail for life where he is getting 3 square meals a day. He took a great friend from me! Rip heather!

Dump this piece of excrement into Jupiter…save us all some tax dollars.

    Another job opening in NJ.

  • James

RIP Ms. Reyes, what did you see in this freak / thug?

  • MiMi

Dumont, and Bergenfield are nice towns. But like everywhere there are crazy people who should not be running around free. My sister went to high school with Tuner and is not surprised that he killed Heather, she said he was a hot head and was very “out there”. Poor girl, it’s a terrible way to go. RIP Heather.

  • Jay

This kid was trouble in high school..and he was a loser…he should get the death sentence….

    • Egbert of Wessex

I do not mean to disappoint you, but New Jersey abolished the death penalty while Jon Corzine was our Governor.

What kind of trouble did this young man get into while the two of you attended high school together? Did he give his fellow students “indian burns” or “wet willies”? Or was he significantly more troublesome than that? Pitching pennies, three card monty, or the shell game?

  • lala

okay first of he was a nice guy, its hard to believe he did this, second dat grl in the recording, if she didnt know about him or about heather and him going out then she didnt know anything. she shouldnt be talking at all. thats what my personal opinion is. r.I.p heather.

Thank you so much for your input and I am sorry for your loss. I also want to thank you for totally destroying the english language.

Respectfully, I must question your reference to Mr. Turner being a “nice guy”. He may have had a pleasant attitude on occasion, but it seems that he was anything but a nice guy.

Nice guys do not typically murder unarmed women (I am assuming she was not armed and he did not shoot her in self defense).

Even the worst humans in history displayed a pleasant nature from time to time … Hitler, Manson, Dahmer, etc. … but it does not mean that they were nice guys.

    • jay

      this kid is a loser

  • The BIG D

By the looks of him, this girl had bad choice in men. Hope she is happy now.

    • Maria

Have you ever made a bad choice in your life? So the girl didnt pick a winner. I hope that nothing like this happens to your daughters. Or sisters. Or your mom. If it does, I hope you’ll be happy.

  • Donnie Most

Why did he call the police to turn himself in?

What movie was he seeing at the AMC movie theater?

      • Tom A....

Get Bent !!!!!…Dumont is not dirt anymore….it has changed for the better…award winning schools and tight community…It’s being next door to Bergenfield that makes Dumont appear trashy…..
