DUMONT, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Police in New Jersey arrested a 24-year-old man after he allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend at their apartment in Dumont. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said Jordan E. Turner, 24, was arrested after he turned himself in to authorities early Saturday morning.
Shortly after midnight, Turner called police and told a dispatcher that he had shot his girlfriend with an “AR-15″ rifle. He said he couldn’t remember the exact address of his residence, but was able to give authorities enough information for them to find it.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Heather Reyes on the floor in a large pool of blood and the firearm on a mattress near the victim.
Paramedics were called in to check on Reyes’ condition and eventually an Advanced Life Support Unit from Englewood hospital arrived and pronounced her dead.
When Turner called police, he told them that he was at the Garden State Plaza Mall AMC movie theater, where an officer found him on his cell phone. Turner was placed under arrest and taken to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
A friend of Reyes’, who did not want to be identified, said she was trying to make sense of the killing.
“I never really knew about [Turner] up until a couple months ago,” she told 1010 WINS’ Terry Sheridan, “so all of a sudden this guy appeared and I didn’t like him the first sight I seen him.”
Turner, who worked as a cashier at a Pathmark in Bergenfield, has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of an assault firearm. He will be arraigned on Monday and bail was set at $1 million.
