Jury To Get Atlantic City Voter Fraud Case

MAYS LANDING, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Jury deliberations were set to begin Monday in the five-month-long voter fraud trial of Atlantic City Councilman Marty Small and five other people.

Small and campaign workers were accused of manipulating and tampering with absentee ballots in the June 2009 Democratic mayoral primary election, in which Small was trounced by incumbent Lorenzo Langford.

The state Attorney General's Office said Small's campaign targeted "loser voters" who it felt would not complain about their votes being stolen.

Small's campaign said the state's entire case is based on the word of a cocaine dealer who cut a deal to reduce his prison sentence from 20 years down to six months in return for secretly recording Small and the others.

Small was acquitted in 2006 of similar charges.
