Conn. Man Fatally Shot Outside His New Haven Home
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A 46-year-old New Haven man is dead after being struck during a sudden barrage of gunfire that apparently wasn't aimed at him.
Derrick Suggs' 21-year-old daughter told the New Haven Register that when the shots began, Suggs was outside his front door, watching to be sure his longtime girlfriend was safe when she walked to a nearby convenience store.
Police found Suggs on the sidewalk in front of his home.
Witnesses estimated that more than 20 shots were fired. Spent cartridges from several different caliber weapons were recovered.
Police theorize there was an exchange of gunfire between people on the street and people in a car seen fleeing the scene.
The shooting remained under investigation.
