HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – A Connecticut father has been charged in the death of his 3-month old son, telling police he accidentally fell on top of the child, crushing his skull.
Forty-year-old Anthony Nelson of Hartford has been charged with first-degree manslaughter, assault, making a false statement and risk of injury to a minor.
Joette Katz, commissioner of the Department of Children and Families, says the agency had been involved with the family since the baby’s birth because of a concern the parents had a history of drug addiction.
Katz said the baby had tested positive for cocaine.
The Hartford Courant reports the baby was pronounced dead at a hospital Tuesday. An autopsy showed bilateral fractures and hemorrhaging within the skull.
