NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A study done back in 2003 by the Port Authority Bus Terminal’s inspector recommended securing vehicle access points.
WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond: It’s Mind-Boggling
Yet, in 2011, Port Authority PBA president Paul Nunziato told agency board members that “you could all get in your cars and drive throughout the bus terminal and you will not be stopped.”
He called it mind-boggling.
“Unless you change what’s going on, we’re going to have a Mumbai-style attack here. We’re going to have a terrorist incident here and we’re not going the best prepared we can be,” says Nunciato.
“We feel that with the public access and the need to bring buses in and out of that terminal and the way our police force is deployed as well as security cameras and all of that infrastructure, that the riding public should feel safe,” says Ward.
He says the agency has spent $3 billion on security, more than any other public entity.
