Police: Man Stabs Woman With Pen At Chambers Street Subway Station

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A woman was stabbed in the head with a pen by a homeless man during the morning rush at Chambers Street subway station Tuesday, police said.

The woman confronted the man about smoking a cigarette on a 3 Train as they train pulled into the station in Tribeca. That's when he allegedly attacked.

Witnesses held the man until officers arrested him.

Straphangers who spoke with 1010 WINS' Al Jones said they were shocked to hear about the incident.

"I mean something is really wrong with him.  Maybe he had a bad day, he woke up on the bad side of the bed," one man said.

"I think it's absolutely bizarre. I've never heard such a crazy story that happened in the subway," another man said.

The woman was taken to Beekman Downtown Hospital in stable condition. The man was placed under arrest. Charges are pending.
