Police: Man Stabs Woman With Pen At Chambers Street Subway Station

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A woman was stabbed in the head with a pen by a homeless man during the morning rush at Chambers Street subway station Tuesday, police said.

The woman confronted the man about smoking a cigarette on a 3 Train as they train pulled into the station in Tribeca. That’s when he allegedly attacked.

Witnesses held the man until officers arrested him.

Straphangers who spoke with 1010 WINS’ Al Jones said they were shocked to hear about the incident.

1010 WINS’ Al Jones reports from Chambers Street Station

“I mean something is really wrong with him.  Maybe he had a bad day, he woke up on the bad side of the bed,” one man said.

“I think it’s absolutely bizarre. I’ve never heard such a crazy story that happened in the subway,” another man said.

The woman was taken to Beekman Downtown Hospital in stable condition. The man was placed under arrest. Charges are pending.

Yes there should realize the opportunity to RSS commentary, quite simply, CMS is another on the blog.

I just blogged about not trying to change people’s actions using force and aggression…I guess she learned her lesson.

  3. Lindy says:

She was so wrong to attempt to correct him or touch him, let alone attempt to take his lighter. He was only defending his space and his property. He shouldnt be charged. He needs help. I dont agree with homeless people living on the streets, but I do feel most are mentally ill..

    1. KPMc says:

Wasn’t she protecting her own space but making him stop doing he wasn’t supposed to be doing or exposing her to?

Yeah… a lot of people are mentally ill in this city but everyone is afraid to say anything when they see bad or even criminal behavior. It’s time decent people took back this city not with violence but just by stepping up and putting creeps on notice. We are not going anywhere and you’re not going to silence us anymore.

I know… wishful thinking on my part but I can dream can’t I?

OH, GOSH! YOU KNOW DARN WELL THAT BREATHING CIGARETTE SMOKE CAUSES MULTIPLE DISEASES INCLUDING CANCER. IT’S A DANGER. NO WONDER NON-SMOKERS ARE ALWAYS IN DANGER HAVING TO BREATHE CIGARETTE SMOKE ON THE STREETS. BUT ON THE SUBJECT OF A WOMAN STABBED BY AN HOMELESS MAN ON THE SUBWAY TRAIN…THIS IS ALL THE MTA’s FAULT BECAUSE THEY CUT NEARLY 500 OR MORE STATION AGENTS. NYPD NEEDS TO HIRE MORE POLICE OFFICERS INSTEAD OF CUTTING BACK ON THEM. THE RICH NEED TO PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE, THE MIDDLE AND LOWER INCOME POPULATION ARE PUSHED TO THE LIMIT WHEN IT COMES TO TAXES. I HOPE THAT WOMAN RECOVERS FROM THE STAB WOUNDS SHE SUSTAINED. THAT’S ALL I WANT TO SAY.

When you live in NYC, you know to MYOB or become a target. There are plenty of crazy people out there and some that don’t care what happens to them. The fact that he was appently homeless just intensifies the danger. She didn’t deserve to get stabbed but I learned a long time ago that if it doen’t directly affect me, I keep my opinion and comments to myself. I don’t want to get spagetti
thrown at me or stabbed in the head

Including the guy who helped subdue the homeless person.

But seriously, people, don’t pick an argument with a homeless person who is probably mentally ill. It’s not a good idea.

THE 1st RULE OF BEING A NY’ER? MIND YOUR BUSINESS, WHICH IS LIKE RULE #2, KEEP YOUR BIG MOUTH SHUT. IF THAT LADY WOULD OBEYED THOSE RULES, SHE WOULD BE O.K. HOWEVER, HER ACTIONS SHOULDN’T OF BEEN A REASON TO STAB HER. IF THE GUY IS SANE, OFF WITH THE HEAD, LET’S PLAY THE TUDORS GAME WITH HIM.

  10. Paul Gjokaj says:

New Yorkers know to mind their business. She must of been new to town? Poor lady.

    1. KPMc says:

No… those are the transplants from Ohio that move to Williamsburg that mind their own business. Real New Yorkers have the balls to say something when something is wrong.

I’m guessing you were raised in Ohio or some other state we usually fly over.

  11. Everyman says:

Maybe it was “that time of the month”.

  12. Bell Toller says:

Did the lady make racial remarks towards him?

    1. Chuck Woolery says:

      Maybe she grabbed his yambag.

  13. Aceof Spades says:

There goes it. You see someone smoking something on the train you don’t confront them. You leave them alone. There is obviously something wrong with them. Unless you are willing to defend your self after confronting someone. I suggest you keep it down or tell the conductor.

  14. LG says:

Thank God that I don’t need to use those filthy subway trains.

    1. KPMc says:

That’s funny… I was just saying.. “Thank God that filth LG doesn’t ride the subway anymore”

  15. Jessica says:

Homeless people normally seem to have mental issues. it’s so weird to me that she confronted him about a cigarette. This lady sounds single with cats. I think cigarettes are good for them because they help mask the body odor. Whatever though at least i didnt get stabbed in the head. I wonder what kind of pen it was.

    1. Homeful Harry says:

That idiot broad got what she asked for.

    2. Single with kitties says:

Jessica, I love your quirky train of thought🙂

  16. David Goldstein says:

How about a description of the suspect?

    1. KPMc says:

Why? He was caught. You don’t need to be on the look out for him but thanks for trying to do your part.

Now go find the rabbi who raped his own daughters and fled to Israel. Do you need a description for that one?

      1. IKnowItAll says:

        You’re an idiot.

      2. Thass cold, yo says:

        KPMc,

        Oh, sweat!

  17. kendra says:

i know i would have never have approached a homeless person either cause they could do very bad damage to any1 all shw had to do was move someehere else…was it worth it.i hope she gets well soon…

  18. Wolf says:

Where are the police or some sort of security in EVERY subway station protecting us hard working, tax paying and FARE paying people? The homeless sneak in and don’t pay a dime and this is exactly what happens. Clean up the damn city Bloomberg. Get rid of the homeless. Over half of them are not citizens. Let the countries they came from support them. US tax paying citizens are getting tired of fotting the bill with hard work and blood shed.

    1. Hard Working, Nearly Evicted says:

Bloomberg has caused thousands of New Yorkers, hardworking or not, to become homeless. The homeless rate in NYC has skyrocketed during his reign.

  19. EricG says:

Nextime she should MYOFB. Remember the spaghetti incident????????????????

  20. SUE says:

TO THE PERSON WHO IS A FRIEND OF A COP IS AN ASS. THIS IS NOT A FUNNY THING. MAYBE SHE DIDNE REALIZE HE WAS HOMELESS. WHO KNOWS WHAT SHE SAID. I BET HE WOULD OF DID THIS TO SOMEONE ELSE.

    1. Urine Nation says:

      Sue,

“would of” —> comedy GOLD, baby!

  21. brooklyn4ever says:

Yeah, it’s against the law to smoke in the train stations, but obviously you are either a smoking idiot lookng for trouble or are a smoking mentally disturbed person who needs to obviously be off the streets like this guy. Either way, this is NYC people and you have to be crazier than either of my examples to approach anyone and start trouble. Do not think ever for a minute that there will never be repercussions if you challenge these kinds of people. Is it really worth ruining your day over?

  22. Anthony says:

How did they know that the man was homeless? Where does a homeless person get the money to buy cigarettes? Why was the homeless person carrying a pencil? There are three quick ways that a homeless person can get housing. He can commit a crime and get thrown into jail. He can join the priesthood. He can go to Lottery headquarters and ask them to give him the winning lottery numbers ahead of time. If the woman was annoyed by secondhand smoke, all she had to to was walk to the other end of the platform. This story is filled with secondhand smoke and secondhand information.

  23. Dan Te says:

    Another Bernie Goetz wanna be.

  24. Marina Ios says:

i dont understand……here, in nyc, you need to completely avoid any kind of confrontation with anyone, not only homeless, or disturbed or drunk, or whatever…..you can never know what mental state a person is in, what kind of medication is on…
i am serious, not joking, when i am in the subway, i always have a newspaper, magazine, or simply pretend that i am napping, so i dont make any eye contact with strangers…..there are disturbed, angry, or simply fed up people who might react in aggressive ways,
and, by the way, this second hand smoke hysteria is becoming a little exaggerated, fyi try to analyze what you are inhaling daily from cars, paintings, rat poisons, etc

  25. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx says:

My friend is a cop who was there and the man and woman were divorced and she wanted the box he lived in next after taking all his money and the house ..

  26. kenny says:

Do this lady know how many other people seen this man smoking and did not say a word that should have told her something. She was on attack mode as soon as she got on the platform, I have to agree with Brian the homeless on this and I to hope she recovers. Lady you are not NYPD…….

  27. Homey "G" says:

Anyone who would confront a homeless person is just looking for trouble! Almost all of them seem to be mentally deranged and not in touch w/ reality. Hey, report it to a cop if you feel the need to take action. Tough lesson learned!

  28. Douglas Reid says:

The homeless on the subways have made a big come back. On the R line, last Saturday, was a man who was throwing garbage on the seats and then picking it up. I have seen him before, on Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn. On my line, which is the C train, the beggars are back big time in Brookyn. At West 4th street, in Manhattan, are plenty of homeless taking up the benches and the odor is extremely powerful.

    1. Stan says:

      Doug,

      You should marry that guy.

  29. Steve says:

I guess second hand smoke can kill you.

  31. nyc middle class says:

There are sooo many mentally ill people on the streets of New York ! Bloomberg’s city of the rich has not figured out how to get rid of them yet ! Wait until the weather starts getting warmer and they all start coming back from Florida where they spent the winter ! Horrible and dangerous.

  32. Lieutenantdan says:

I would not think of confronting a homeless person or anyone else, they can be EDP, emotionally disturbed. What is wrong with her? She must have anger issues that she needs to address.

    1. Brian The Homeless says:

some women would like to attack a confront a man just to fill the void in her life and making a statement. Hope to recovers and lesson learnt for her, smoking !! what a deal !!! get over it

      Oh free the homless :o)
