Williamsburg Community Board Considers Moratorium On New Liquor Licenses
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – There have been so many applications for new liquor licenses in Williamsburg that some say it has to stop.
WCBS 880’s Paul Murnane: There Is Public Support For The Moratorium
In the neighborhood, there is some support for a moratorium on new liquor licenses.
“If you raise the family, you live here for lots of years, I could understand why,” said one man. “But it’s great for business.”
“This neighborhood got maybe 80% of bars for the young people,” said another man. “Too much. That’s too much.”
One local says the area feels like a bridge and tunnel crowd on weekends.
“On a Sunday morning, it’s kind of trashed on the sidewalks,” said one woman.
The state liquor authority has final say on these matters, but they give more than an ear to the opinions of these local boards.
