NEW YORK (AP) — Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig expects the playoffs to expand from eight teams to 10 for the 2012 season.

Selig went public last fall with his support for expanded playoffs, and the matter is subject to collective bargaining with the players’ association.

“I would say we’re moving to expanding the playoffs, but there’s a myriad of details to work out,” Selig said Thursday at his annual meeting with the Associated Press Sports Editors. “Ten is a fair number.”

Selig said scheduling is the major issue of discussion, including how many games the new wild-card round will be. The two wild cards in each league would meet, and the winners would advance to the following round against division winners.

“The more we’ve talked about it, I think we’re moving inexorably to that,” he said.

lets just play all year long. They think of nothing but $$$. I am getting to hate all pro sports.

Day/Night separate paid attendance double headers are a good idea. But if it rains on one of those days, TWO games, not one would need to be rescheduled.

And you know, why not have a few true doubleheaders as a reward to all of us gullible idiotic fans that pay $6 for a hotdog and $4 for a bottle of water and $12 for a beer?

And to be fair, ALL teams should have the same scheduled date for the DHs, such as on Father’s Day or on July 4th, Memorial Day, ect ect.

Easy way to shorten the season ….in the same division you play 18 games against each other why not have a home and away doubleheader against each team. If your worried about attendance make it a day night doubleheader this way no revenue is lost. You can shorten season by at least one week doing this.

Great idea, but they would need to shorten the regular season a few games as well. Otherwise, you could be playing baseball in the north-east well into November…..thats rediculous!!!!
