FRANKLIN SQUARE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – Some neighbors are sticking up for a Long Island man accused of throwing a dog into the street over the weekend.

1010 WINS’ Mona Rivera reports: Neighborhood Divided In Dog Tossing Case

Barbara Bottiglieri, 54, was walking her miniature Dachshund, named Coco, Saturday afternoon on Robin Road in Franklin Square when her neighbor, Jamie Sanchez, 56, approached her and accused the dog of using his lawn as a toilet.

Police said Sanchez threatened to let his dog loose on Bottiglieri and her 1-year-old dog if she walked Coco on his property.

After Bottiglieri threatened to call police, Sanchez grabbed Coco’s leash and flung the dog six feet into the air and 10 feet into the middle of the street, police said. Coco sustained injuries to her tail and ruptured stitches from a recent surgery.

“This man threw my dog for no reason. He took it out on a 10-pound dog,” Bottiglieri told 1010 WINS’ Mona Rivera. She denies that Coco relieved itself on Sanchez’s property.

At least two neighbors told Rivera that Bottiglieri has been told before by many in the area to keep Coco off their lawns.

“The dog does go all over the place,” one woman said. “She walks the dog on our property, on the grass and he’s [Sanchez] not the bad guy here.”

“The woman was told not to walk the dog in front of a lot of the houses in the neighborhood,” one man said. “The woman walks the dog and she actually smokes a cigarette and lets the dog do whatever it wants.”

Sanchez was arrested and pleaded not guilty Sunday to charges of overdriving, torturing animals and reckless endangerment to property. He is due back in court on Wednesday.

Coco was taken to her veterinarian for treatment.

Had her child consistently ran on his law, would he have tossed them too! Man is a ticking time bomb. Almost all serial killers first abused animals

  • Blue

Every time her dog dumped on his lawn he should of taken his dog up to dump on her lawn, ( and if she does not have a lawn dump on her front door steps,) see how she would like it then, and any other neighbor around there who she did this to as well should do the same,.. i think she would soon get the message and find other places to take her dog, or do what is her duty and pick up after it dumps.

  • R

It’s not the dogs fault that her owner is at fault. Poor little dog.

  • jerseyjoey

Jerseyjoey Here: Like i say its all the liberals fault, now that being said, I say that Coco the 10 pound dog is not at fault: Its a dopey dog with limited brain power (kind of like your elected officials in NYC) ok ok getting of track here. What this man should have done was throw her Fhat Arse over the fence into the street.

  • Vic

She’s wrong if she really does let her dog do its business wherever BUT the guy is an A$$ who took out his frustration on a little dog and flung into the street. What?! Sic his dog on this woman and a 10 lb dog? What is he – some kind of neanderthal brute!? She should be ticketed for allowing her dog to relieve itself on other lawsn but I wonder if those same neighbors called the authorities on her, ever. Be honest.

  • RICK H

HE THREATENED TO LET HIS DOG ON TO HER AND HER DOG ????? HOW DOES HE TREAT HIS DOG , LIKE MIKIE VIC? GOOD QUESTION HUH!!!!!

  • BoomBuster

Excellent…!!! Bet she will stop now lolol……………

  • Thor

someone should break that”big” mans face…probably is nothin’ but a wuss…pick on someone your own size you turd

  • Maria P

He shoudl be put in jail! There is no reason you can possible give for injury a defenseless animal. He is a cruel old man and deserves to whatever punishment he gets!

  • UNREAL!!

there’s other ways to handle this. if anything, he should have called the cops on her. he’s an a@@ for tossing an innocent dog–he needs to be tossed
    !.

    poor puppy!

  • usmcmaggot

Is COCO licensed??? If not give her a ticket!~!!

  • usmcmaggot

Take a dump on her lawn!!!

  • Grossed Out

If the dog was on private property, then Sanchez should sue the dog owner for trespassing and unlawful dumping. It’s disgusting.

  • Roy

    they are both idiots…………

    • Lisa

You hit the nail on the head!

  • karen

The Dog is the innocent here, he doesn’t know he’s doing anything wrong. The owner is to blame. Injuring a dog for something an owner did is inexcusable. Both of these people need to be punished.

    • Rick

      i agree

    • Vic

      Yes.

  • badman

just torch the whole neighborhood (evacuate pets first)

    • Rodin

      Love it, second the motion!

  • GoodGirl

People really need to chill. He throws a dog 10 feet in the air because why???? With all the serious issues going on in the world, this really is very trivial to lose your head like that and take it out on a dog.

  • Yoo-hoo, CBS!

“Sanchez was arrested and pleaded not guilty Sunday to charges of overdriving…”

    WTH does “overdriving” mean, exactly?

    • DMV

OVERDRIVING as used in another sentence: I was gonna walk to my girl’s house, but I went overdriving.

      Any questions?

      Now gimmie my diploma.

        Brutus,

Thanks. I thought CBS was making up words again.

  • Flynn

Lady’s a pig. Guy’s a jacka$$. The only real victim here is the poor dog.

  • Tito

He should have flung the dog’s owner into the street.

  • Paul Kohloff

should’ve threw the woman in the street its not the dogs fault.

  • Anne Hill

no one ever has any right to put their hands on another person or animal to harm them.

  • Daniel P.

While this woman should not let her dog on other people’s property without their permission, the alleged actions of this man are heinous and inexcusable. If he’s found guilty, he should get the max. And I hope the woman sues him.

  • Bridget

While I don’t agree with injuring the dog. This woman may have had it coming. She ignored her neighbors and let her dog go on their lawns. An earlier report the woman indicated that she never let do go on other peoples property. Now the dirt comes out. Frankly, I don’t believe that do never went on her neighbors property. Some people with dogs just don’t give a dam.

    • Old Man

MOST DOG OWNERS don’t give a damn!

      • lisa

        Your STUPID old man!!!

  • Larry Schwarz

This guy Sanchez should have called Police,he had no right to do what he did.
It is animal cruelty,Bottiglieri should also sue Sanchez in small claims court for The Vet bill.As far as people defending animal cruelty, come on,where are your brains. It is not the dogs fault..Animal cruelty.here in Utah it is a Felony,I do not know about New York.In a perfect world they should do to Sanchez what he did to that dog.
