Some Neighbors Defend Franklin Square Man Accused Of Tossing Neighbor’s Dog Into Street

FRANKLIN SQUARE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — Some neighbors are sticking up for a Long Island man accused of throwing a dog into the street over the weekend.

1010 WINS’ Mona Rivera reports: Neighborhood Divided In Dog Tossing Case

Barbara Bottiglieri, 54, was walking her miniature Dachshund, named Coco, Saturday afternoon on Robin Road in Franklin Square when her neighbor, Jamie Sanchez, 56, approached her and accused the dog of using his lawn as a toilet.

Police said Sanchez threatened to let his dog loose on Bottiglieri and her 1-year-old dog if she walked Coco on his property.

After Bottiglieri threatened to call police, Sanchez grabbed Coco’s leash and flung the dog six feet into the air and 10 feet into the middle of the street, police said. Coco sustained injuries to her tail and ruptured stitches from a recent surgery.

“This man threw my dog for no reason. He took it out on a 10-pound dog,” Bottiglieri told 1010 WINS’ Mona Rivera. She denies that Coco relieved itself on Sanchez’s property.

At least two neighbors told Rivera that Bottiglieri has been told before by many in the area to keep Coco off their lawns.

“The dog does go all over the place,” one woman said. “She walks the dog on our property, on the grass and he’s [Sanchez] not the bad guy here.”

“The woman was told not to walk the dog in front of a lot of the houses in the neighborhood,” one man said. “The woman walks the dog and she actually smokes a cigarette and lets the dog do whatever it wants.”

Sanchez was arrested and pleaded not guilty Sunday to charges of overdriving, torturing animals and reckless endangerment to property. He is due back in court on Wednesday.

Coco was taken to her veterinarian for treatment.

Isn’t Franklin Square in Nassau? How, then is this low-brow Long Island drama deemed “news”?

  • Micha

I am a huge animal lover and totally disagree with this guys actions. HOWEVER, I can understand his aggravation. He should have wrapped the leash around the owners neck and threw her in the street. Its her responsibility to clean up after her dog. People like her are inconsiderate and also have a sense of entitlement. I hope the dog’s OK and next time someone has a problem with it going on their lawn, they should take it up with the dum**** owner…

  • Melissa

” he’s not the bad guy”??? Are you insane??? It is the owners fault for not picking up after coco it’s not the dogs fault. If that was my dog his old ass would have been tossed right onto the nearest highway !!!!

    • cygon

      you can’t pick up pee

  • giovanni

i will put him to work for the aspca cleaning the cages for 6 months he is not a cop to touch a dog or a person

    • earthgirl

you do not know the whole story and that is the problem. Barbara is an obvious troublemaker and does not care for her neighbor’s property as she is just “renting” an apartment in the area. How many times do people disregard others requests??? He took the dogs leash and pulled it off his lawn, there was no dog throwing involved, the dog was not injured. Now this man has a record and had to set bail because of a big mouth neighbor. he has a dog himself and has never acted this way toward animals before. If she cared so much about her precious dog she wouldn’t smoke around it, it will probably get lung cancer from this horrible woman. If I were him I would have thrown her across the street and did everyone a favor.

  • mario

i hope you comeback in you next life as a dog

  • Melanie

I understand how frustrating it is to have an animal relieve itself on your property, especially if the person doesn’t pick up after their dog. HOWEVER, it doesn’t give this moron the right to throw the dog. The dog doesn’t know better. I hope he doesn’t treat his dog like that.

  • Susan

To Coco’s owner: if you love your dog you would be responsible enough to walk it without putting it in danger. Your neighbors are obviously upset.
To Mr. Sanchez: you are a piece of trash, I hope your sentenced to community service cleaning dogshi… for the rest of your pathetic existence. You even look like a daemon.

    • Maria

What does that even mean. “would be responsible enough to walk it without putting it in danger”

  • Bernie Sanders

you are suppose to walk a dog at the curb which the city owns not on someones lawn . shes prob a person who walks the dog on one of those long leashes and the dog goes wherever it wants .. not fair I am for the man in this case since she has been warned b4 .. now she will go to court and sue and laugh her fat ass to the bank !

    • Maria

No she isnt actually! You r for a man who throws animals-that says a lot about u!

This story’s old and worn, over. The relatives and neighbours have left the field. Anyone with anything constructive to offer did so. Nothing left but the dregs for the dregs to gnaw on.

Don’t talk about your moms like dat.

  • marx engels

Sanchez should have done it like Jim Carrey in Me,Myself, and Irene – pulled down his pants and defecated on her lawn, or maybe put it in a bag and set it on fire before ringing her doorbell.
Like most of Nazi County, Franklin Square’s motto is “Greed, Arrogance, and Spite” so I have no sympathy for anybody there! The same hippocrates that hoist and salute the American Flag will turn right around and sell their houses for cash to the Asian Invasion!!

agree w/ Paul G>>> its funny how everyone gets all teary eyed w/ a dog>> But How many eat tuna? do you know how many dolphins are killed in the process? Or how many of you hyprocrites have fur coats? Or go tell a Hindu person… U love Hot dogs and burgers on your BBQ. How about go to China and stop the massive dog killing for food . They’re animals..God created Man and Woman w/ common sense , compassion , and the ability to reason. The easy solution is Not to fling the dog… But to kindly take a poop in front of her door.

I would of kicked the dog across the street if it kept urinating on my property after I informed the owner not to walk it here anymore. Big f**** deal. Its only a dog it will live. People care more for dogs than they do for the homeless, veterans, etc. They wont buy a homeless guy a slice of pizza but they will take in a stray cat!

    • MARIA

Barbara IS THE NICEST WOMAN and does not deserve any of this… He is trouble and likes to cause trouble. HOW DO U THORW a 10 pound dog AND OWN A DOG. The people that are defending him HAVE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM!

    • Rodin

      “would of”…..idiot.

      • Rodin

        @ F tha homeless guy

I think you’ll need to explain it in more detail. He won’t get it.

        @ Paul G.

It’s NOT “would of”. It’s “would have” or, contracted (‘shrunk” to you), “would’ve.”

PLUS, you’re missing asterisks (those little stars, you know….) in “f**** “, one for ‘n’ and one for ‘g’.

“The dog does go all over the place,” one woman said. “She walks the dog on our property, on the grass and he’s [Sanchez] not the bad guy here.”
Yes, he is the bad guy. There is no excuse for animal cruelty. If the dog did urinate on Mr. Sanchez’s lawn it is because Ms. Bottiglieri let her and his problem is with the owner. Blame the owner not the dog. The dog doesn’t know what is appropriate behavior unless she is trained to.

    • Richard T.

I absolutely agree. The bneef is with the OWNER and not with the dog. I’d like to see this creep try to pick up my dog, I’d do more than throw him into the street, I’d stomp him a couple of times as well-
He still needs to be locked up for animal cruelty. The dog only followed his owner’s commands. BTW, Sancchez is a mean (and ugly) looking individual!

  • Bob Borzotta

The neighbors quoted explained some background; they did not defend the man. As I tell people in my work all the time, blame the owner, don’t hurt the dog. And since you can’t fling the woman into the street (and shouldn’t try), videotape the dog owner’s offense, collect the dog’s droppings, and hand them to her while someone videotapes you handing her the droppings. Guide other neighbors to do the same. I’m glad there’s some actual debate here — usually the story sides with the owner and offers insufficient explanation about what was at work. I do know the frustration, first-hand, the man felt. But his actions are criminal. Still, I’d like the see the woman fined for her actions. The man’s going to do some time, if justice be done.

    • Rodin

EXCELLENT! Then take the video to Sanitation and file a complaint.

      • Bob Borzotta

Indeedy. She needs to pay for her offenses. But not her dog — an innocent pawn in a human conflict.

  • Bell Toller

this jerk should be in jail for 10 yrs minimum

  • Maria

This man is a jerk.I know Barbara personally and can tell you truthfully she ALWAYS picked up Coco’s poop…ALWAYS! He is trouble and likes to cause trouble. It is what it is…He threw a 10 pound dog AFTER he threatened to sik his dog on hers…Classic case of animal cruelty for BOTH dogs. The people that are defending him are only afraid of him because he is a trouble maker. Im sure if my 6 foot 7 husband was walking our dog and he peed on the PUBLIC SIDEWALK he would have never said boo-Even if the dog pooped and she did not pick it up…he has NO RIGHT to touch this animal. I hate to think if his dog ever had an accident…Yikes!

    • Rodin

Maria, we meet again. You seem to be all over the place. TWO jerks at the heart of the story, ONE innocent Dog, same as Ava.

  • Rodin

“Dogs are blameless, devoid of calculation, neither blessed nor cursed with human motives. They can’t really be held responsible for what they do.
    BUT WE CAN.”
From “The Dogs of Bedlam Farm”

A lot of BLAME THE VICTIM and “who shot John” here. COCO is the innocent here, the victim. There’s ONE side to this story: an innocent animal was harmed.

Abuser Sánchez and irresponsible caretaker Bottiglieri are both guilty as charged, both broke the law and should be charged accordingly.

    • Rodin

You hurt me or my family or my property, I’ll patiently wait for the justice system to work its way to retribution. But laws protecting Dogs and other animals are flawed and grossly lopsided in favour of humans.

Michael Vicks, a monster by any decent person’s standards, is back in the limelight making millions after abusing and killing who knows how many animals. AND HE WANTS TO GET HIMSELF A PUPPY!!! He should be behind bars for many years to come. He should be banned from football for life for gambling.

SO, you hurt one of my Dogs…, YOU’RE DEAD!

      • phanity

        Sc*** yoself!!!

      • Rodin

Do you mean “yo-UR-self” or “yo’self”? Can’t spell the first word, “Sc***” either? What’s with all the asterisks (that’s those little ‘stars’ you used)?

  • Ryan

There are always at least 2 sides to the same story. What the man did was cruel and stupid; the dog is just a dog and does what it does. What the woman did was inconsiderate and nasty. All the neighbors should take their dogs and let them poop on her lawn.

    • Bell Toller

Were you there? Did you see this do urinate on the lawn. If not then SHUT UP.

  • Ann j

You don’t throw a dog because you are angry with the dog’s owner. I hope this man get’s jail for what he did, hurting a defenseless animal. Who’s the animal here???

  • Bell Toller

Seems like people are defending him because he is Spanish

    • Ryan

Seems like you are a moron.

      • Bell Toller

        Ouch, that smarts!

  • Elizabeth Belgiovine

Had her child consistently ran on his law, would he have tossed them too! Man is a ticking time bomb. Almost all serial killers first abused animals

  • Blue

Every time her dog dumped on his lawn he should of taken his dog up to dump on her lawn, ( and if she does not have a lawn dump on her front door steps,) see how she would like it then, and any other neighbor around there who she did this to as well should do the same,.. i think she would soon get the message and find other places to take her dog, or do what is her duty and pick up after it dumps.

  • R

It’s not the dogs fault that her owner is at fault. Poor little dog.

  • jerseyjoey

Jerseyjoey Here: Like i say its all the liberals fault, now that being said, I say that Coco the 10 pound dog is not at fault: Its a dopey dog with limited brain power (kind of like your elected officials in NYC) ok ok getting of track here. What this man should have done was throw her Fhat Arse over the fence into the street.

  • Vic

She’s wrong if she really does let her dog do its business wherever BUT the guy is an A$$ who took out his frustration on a little dog and flung into the street. What?! Sic his dog on this woman and a 10 lb dog? What is he – some kind of neanderthal brute!? She should be ticketed for allowing her dog to relieve itself on other lawsn but I wonder if those same neighbors called the authorities on her, ever. Be honest.

  • RICK H

  • BoomBuster

Excellent…!!! Bet she will stop now lolol……………

  • Thor

someone should break that”big” mans face…probably is nothin’ but a wuss…pick on someone your own size you turd

  • Maria P

He shoudl be put in jail! There is no reason you can possible give for injury a defenseless animal. He is a cruel old man and deserves to whatever punishment he gets!

  • UNREAL!!

there’s other ways to handle this. if anything, he should have called the cops on her. he’s an a@@ for tossing an innocent dog–he needs to be tossed

    poor puppy!

  • usmcmaggot

Is COCO licensed??? If not give her a ticket!~!!

  • usmcmaggot

Take a dump on her lawn!!!

  • Grossed Out

If the dog was on private property, then Sanchez should sue the dog owner for trespassing and unlawful dumping. It’s disgusting.

  • Roy

    they are both idiots…………

    • Lisa

You hit the nail on the head!

  • karen

The Dog is the innocent here, he doesn’t know he’s doing anything wrong. The owner is to blame. Injuring a dog for something an owner did is inexcusable. Both of these people need to be punished.

    • Rick

      i agree

    • Vic

  • badman

just torch the whole neighborhood (evacuate pets first)

    • Rodin

      Love it, second the motion!

  • GoodGirl

People really need to chill. He throws a dog 10 feet in the air because why???? With all the serious issues going on in the world, this really is very trivial to lose your head like that and take it out on a dog.

  • Yoo-hoo, CBS!

“Sanchez was arrested and pleaded not guilty Sunday to charges of overdriving…”

    WTH does “overdriving” mean, exactly?

    • Brutus

NY Code – Section 353: Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance Here is a link below that describes it>

Thanks. I thought CBS was making up words again.

    • DMV

OVERDRIVING as used in another sentence: I was gonna walk to my girl’s house, but I went overdriving.

      Any questions?

      Now gimmie my diploma.

  • Flynn

Lady’s a pig. Guy’s a jacka$$. The only real victim here is the poor dog.

  • Tito

He should have flung the dog’s owner into the street.

  • Paul Kohloff

should’ve threw the woman in the street its not the dogs fault.

  • Anne Hill

no one ever has any right to put their hands on another person or animal to harm them.

  • Daniel P.

While this woman should not let her dog on other people’s property without their permission, the alleged actions of this man are heinous and inexcusable. If he’s found guilty, he should get the max. And I hope the woman sues him.

  • Bridget

While I don’t agree with injuring the dog. This woman may have had it coming. She ignored her neighbors and let her dog go on their lawns. An earlier report the woman indicated that she never let do go on other peoples property. Now the dirt comes out. Frankly, I don’t believe that do never went on her neighbors property. Some people with dogs just don’t give a dam.

    • Old Man

MOST DOG OWNERS don’t give a damn!

      • lisa

        Your STUPID old man!!!

  • Larry Schwarz

This guy Sanchez should have called Police,he had no right to do what he did.
It is animal cruelty,Bottiglieri should also sue Sanchez in small claims court for The Vet bill.As far as people defending animal cruelty, come on,where are your brains. It is not the dogs fault..Animal in Utah it is a Felony,I do not know about New York.In a perfect world they should do to Sanchez what he did to that dog.
