NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Donald Trump is claiming credit for the White House’s decision to release President Barack Obama’s full birth certificate.

“I’m really honored and I’m really proud that I was able to do something that nobody else was able to do,” Trump said.

Trump made his remarks during a visit to New Hampshire Wednesday, the site of the nation’s first presidential primary. The visit itself fueled speculation that Trump may run for the White House in 2012.

“I hope [the birth certificate] is true,” Trump said, adding that it will have to be examined by experts.

Trump has recently been featured in a series of television appearances in which he has hammered away at the question of whether or not Barack Obama’s birth certificate is legitimate.

“He should’ve [released] it a long time ago,” Trump said. “Why he didn’t do it when the Clinton’s asked for it, why he didn’t do it when everybody else was asking for it, I don’t know.”

“I am really honored frankly to have played such a big role in hopefully, hopefully getting rid of this issue,” Trump said. “Now we can talk about oil, we can about gasoline prices, we can talk about China ripping off this country,” he added.

Speaking in New Hampshire, Trump said he will not make an announcement about 2012 intentions until after his television show’s season ends in May.

That didn’t keep him from speculating about how he’d fare against the President in the contest.

“I think I beat Obama,” Trump said. He cited recent polls that put him at the top of the Republican pack of potential contenders.

People who spoke with 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria on Wednesday said releasing the document was probably a good idea.

“I think it was about the only way he could respond to a ridiculous non-issue that has consumed far too much time already,” one man said.

Another New Yorker said he hoped the issue would finally be put to rest.

“I hope so because people can focus more on the economy and jobs,” he said.

In a brief but blistering press conference, Mr. Obama took aim at his political critics who have been trying to derail his presidency and his reelection by claiming he wasn’t born in America.

“We do not have time for this kind of silliness,” he said. “We’re not going to be able to solve our problems if we get distracted by sideshows and carnival barkers.’

The long form birth certificate says the president was born on August 4, 1961 at a maternity hospital in Honolulu. He did not comment on why the document had not been released earlier.

A USA Today/Gallup poll taken last week showed large numbers of voters continued to doubt Mr. Obama was a natural-born citizen eligible to be president. Only 38 percent said he was definitely born in the United States, while 18 percent said he probably was, 15 percent say he probably was born in another country, and nine percent said he definitely was born elsewhere.

“Some right wingers will say this is fake this is not real and contonue bashing the president every way they can,” said Hank Scheinkopf, political consultant.

What do you think of the birth certificate issue? Is Trump seriously thinking about running for president? How would he do if he ran? Sound off in our comments section.

Dear Mr. Trump…Just want you to know that my husband and I would vote for you in a heartbeat. It is your intellect, confidence, idealisms, realisms, beliefs, and proof of efficency and effectiveness that holds our faith in you.
So many are just outright tired of the same old politicians. We need someone with your business expertise and stamina to lay the foundation to take our country back from the Medicaid and Medicare hustlers who apply and reapply for FREE (out of our paychecks free) services, illegal immigrants, as well as numerous other fake, phonies, and frauds.
I am proud to be an American, and I believe that with you as president, all Americans can remain proud living safe and frutiful lives.
YOU get things done; and with whom you choose as your political advisers…we WILL continue to have the best military operations in the world; our economy will strengthen beyond anyones imagination, and corruption of the Medicaid and Medicare system will cease.
We trust you, Mr. Trump; please seek nomination. I KNOW that you will be our next President. We believe!
    Loyally yours,
    M.C.G.
    Town of Moreau, NY

P.S. Pls know that I bear witness to many disabled and trustful individuals who honestly do indeed earn Medicaid and Medicare SSD. I also know that it is only you who has enough courage to put the best team/s together to sort out the truly disadvantaged from the ones who take advantage.

      Marylin,

Your support for Mr. Trump is passionate and dedicated, and I respect you for that. However, I must ask you a simple question: You cite Trump’s business expertise as qualities suitable for the next president of our country.

However, “The Donald” is absolutely no stranger to failed business ventures and shady practices. Several of his projects have gone belly-up. He’s seen his share of bankruptcy. The late 80′s to mid 90′s saw Trump experiencing a number of Financial crises. And he rented out land to Momar Quadafi (spelling may be wrong) in our country. I mean good heavens, why not offer a time share to Bin Laden?

I agree with you that a majority of the politicians of today are a joke — in ‘the game’ solely for themselves. Change in Washington — on both sides of the political spectrum — is desperately needed. But please reconsider your support of Donald Trump. There is a solution for this country, but I can assure you, that man is NOT it.

      Regards
      Flynn

        Flynn,

That was by far one of the most intelligent and well written comments I have ever seen on this website. Well done!

        Thank you Mr. Flynn

According to Faux News, President Obama submitted the “short” form of his birth certificate years ago. But the haters (especially the Donald) have been beating the issue for their own purposes. Glad it is finally over. (Or is there going to be a new conspiracy theory over the long form.)

  • Still LMAO

Ha Ha Ha Whats his next BIG accomplishment? Buger flicking for distance? Ha Ha Ha

  • LMAO

Ha Ha Ha That’s his big accomplishment? Ha Ha Ha

  • Anita

DEFINITION OF THE ISSUE AT HAND:
    1) Location of long-form birth certificate as mitigated by the President’s unwillingness to present it when asked.
    2) What said ‘unwillingness’ and/or avoidance to resolve these questions may indicate.

THANK YOU MR. TRUMP for seeing this issue through to its END!

Critics are naive to think Mr. Trump was the only one asking the questions. When LARGE NUMBERS OF AMERICANS have responded to polls for YEARS suggesting they too were uncomfortable with the President’s tap dance of superiority! Mr. Trump was not the ONLY inquisitor, he was just the most influencial (as evidenced by the President’s surrendor of the long desired certificate).

    LESSON LEARNED:
    1) Per the certificate released this morning, Obama is not only an American citizen, but he is also an arrogant horse’s behind who deems himself above inquiry by the very people he allegedly pledged to serve upon entering the political arena years ago.

    2) Trump may not be liked, but is evidently an underestimated force to be reckoned with!!

    • Sandy

Sorry, but he provided the long form to those people who needed to see it in order for him to become president. What he didn’t feel he needed to do was show it to the public because it is personal. I think he should have that right. Trump is the arrogant ass in this instance for believing he has anything at all to offer us as a president. The only thing that qualifies him for politics is his ability to lie and bend the truth to his needs.

      • Fallingleaves2

And lets not forget his biggggggg mouth.

    • DJohn

President Obama released his birth certificate because some Americans were stupid / racist enough to believe he was born in Kenya.

Let’s be honest: if he were white this would not have been an issue. Many Americans can not accept a black man as president. END OF STORY.

  • Rocky

Maybe he’ll have Gary Busey as his running mate ???

  • wiliam ringler

Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who is the biggest Rump of them all? Why, it’s still you Donald.

  • al

    why now ?? still questionable??

    • Stephen M. St. John

      Why now?? Still questionable?? Indeed!!

Contradictory evidence against Barack Obama’s “revelation” earlier today still needs to be considered very carefully.

In this regard, the arguments of Philadelphia attorney Philip J. Berg have still not been heard in a court of law or even a national forum. And so the best spokesperson on this issue has been excluded for no good reason and to the detriment of our nation.

For example, on 11 December 2008 I faxed to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and Secretary of State designate Hilary Clinton and advised both of them that the Embassy of Indonesia had just advised me that, upon official request of the Government of the United States, information about Barack Obama’s Indonesian citizenship would be forthcoming.

Nothing happened. Four days later, the Electoral College proceeded without this important information originally developed by Philip Berg.

  • joey

Bam just made you the look like the buffoon you are Trump.

  • Jon P.

Donald Trump is a piece of NOTHING! He’s a waste of space! An EGO-MANEACK. We’d be better off if he fell of the planet and we’d never have to look at that piece of nothing again! I can’t WAIT for karma to come back and bite him in the ass………BECAUSE IT WILL!

  • J

Trump talks a lot of nonsense I’m surprised he does so, because he is old money. But then again there are always one or two who manage to slip by.

  • Norah B.

    Trump’s a buffoon

  • BC

Remember, people…Trump is part of the 1% you all love to hate…the rich. He cares nothing more than to have his name in the press 24/7. He is a megalomaniac to the extreme, and will do nothing for you as president of this country. Trump’s tactic of taking credit for this is straight out of the Reagan playbook, i.e. – taking credit for ending the Iranian hostage crisis.

And for those who are stuck on Obama’s place of birth, even if he provides bonafide proof of his birthplace, you will never be satisfied because you are not interested in him being your president…you are only interested in having him out of office. You didn’t seem too interested in seeing Bush’s birth certificate when HE was destroying this country for eight years.

    • REGULATOR

BRAVO FOR THE ABOVE COMMENT BC!! NOW HIS BUMASS SHOULD BE FORCED TO PRODUCE HIS BECAUSE NOT FOR NOTHING, I THINK HE HAILS FROM SOME OTHER COUNTRY!!

  • midi-man

Wow I think there are bigger issues we need to focus on in this country.

  • Mike

Trump is the champion of non issues. His stink over this non issue demonstrates his adolescent judgement as a bully in the school yard. He should stick to his day job.

  • Flynn

Trump taking credit for Obama releasing the long form is like a burglar taking credit for a homeowner adding security system after he robbed him.

    • Josh

You are an bignorant donkey. Flynn makes an excellent point whereas your comments are merely race-filled hate. Shame on you.

      • Bridget

@josh, who are you calling ignorant. You can’t structure a sentence. What is your post below suppose to mean? I hope Trump does not run for president, he is not what this country needs right now.

      • joe

what is a “bignorant” donkey???? you must have went to school in jersey. learn to put together a sentance the right way! shame on you josh

      • Rodin

        Joe,

        “bignorant” – big_ignorant

The real problem with his sentence is “AN bignorant” which should have been ‘A’ bignorant.

Speaking of which, correctly written, “must have went” should be “must have GONE.” But then, who’s counting?

“People who live in glass houses” … should “learn to put together a sentance the right way!”

  • HairPolice

Now can we get some authentication that Trump’s hair is actually of US origin?

  • Garrett B

Thanks Mr. Trump for having the courage to take on this issue.

    • Josh

There never was an issue, unless you are so ignorant as to not have a read a damn thing about Hawaii’s birth certificate process and the fact that public officials from Hawaii have all sworn that the certificate was authentic from the get go. To still harp on this suggests that our Federal Gov’t was asleep at the wheel while some yutz took over… or maybe that’s something we learned from the previous administration.

    • DCOnEdge

Garrett: Trump showed “courage” like the terrorists showed “courage” on 9-11. He is a political terrorist and financial terrorist who has been bleeding the government for decades with failed projects and bankruptcys.

  • Richard T.

TRUMP IS A LOUDMOUTH IDIOTIC, EGOTISTICAL BLOWHARD. HE RELISHES HAVING HIS NAME IN THE PRESS AND WILL DO MOST ANYTHING TO ACCOMPLISH THAT. WE’D ALL BE MKUCH BETTER OFF IF HE CAME DOWN WITH A SEVERE CASE OF LARYNGITIS!

    • Josh

What is he were neither you bigot?!?!
