Millwood Opts Out Of Contract With Yankees
NEW YORK (AP) — Veteran right-hander Kevin Millwood has opted out of his contract with the New York Yankees, which he could do if he wasn't called up from the minors by May 1.
The team made the announcement before Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays.
The 36-year-old agreed to a minor league deal with the Yankees in late March, but has been stuck there as Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon locked down the back end of the rotation.
Millwood went 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA in three starts at Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, though he lasted only two innings in his final start at Scranton.
He was 4-16 with a 5.10 ERA for the Baltimore Orioles last season.
