Pablo Perez Claims He Was Drifting At Sea For Days Before Washing Up On Jones Beach

BABYLON, NY (CBSNewYork) – New York State Park police are looking into claims by a fisherman who says he was drifting at sea for three days before washing up on Jones Beach.

Police say 47-year-old Pablo Perez of Queens walked up to a jogger early Monday morning on the boardwalk at Central Mall and said he was separated from his boat three days ago and had been drifting at sea since.

The jogger called 9-1-1 and when the ambulance arrived, Perez, who was wearing a wet suit underneath his clothes, told emergency responders that he was also carrying a gun.

Police seized the 25 caliber semi-automatic loaded handgun and Perez was taken to the hospital.

Police later found a nine-foot raft on the shoreline and it was taken to the police station on Jones Beach.

Perez is being evaluated at the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.
