NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – By now you’ve probably heard that, after 25 years of interviewing celebrities and common folk alike, Oprah is calling it quits on her legendary talk show and heading to cable television.

But that’s not all she’s doing.

In addition to contributing more time to her new network OWN, Oprah wants to be a part of Broadway.  In a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, the talk show host admitted that Broadway is next on her to-do list.

“I have a stack of plays in my bag right now that I am reading,” she told the paper. “And just this past weekend, I was in New York meeting with producers. We were just talking about what would be the best route to take. But yes, this is really going to happen. Life is too short.”

Broadway has been a dream for Oprah for a long time. She came close a couple of years ago with Kenny Leon’s production of “Fences,”  though the daytime diva eventually decided to keep her efforts focused on her talk show.

“I went through the idea of trying to take my show to New York, shoot a show during the daytime and appear on Broadway at night. But I couldn’t do it. And finally, Kenny said he couldn’t wait any longer.”

With more time on her hands, Oprah is excited about the opportunity to hit the Great White Way.

“This next phase of my life should be pure delight,” she said.
