15-Story High ‘Green Lantern’ Roller Coaster Debuts At Six Flags Great Adventure
JACKSON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Attention all thrill seekers!
If you’ve always wanted to stand up while riding a roller coaster then your dream has come true.
1010 WINS’ Alice Stockton-Rossini reports: The Craziest Ride Ever!
The ride is 15 stories high and reaches speeds greater than 60 miles per hour. The ride starts with a 153-foot climb followed by a 45-degree vertical drop.
The 2 1/2 minute-long coaster features five inversions including a 121-foot tall loop, 103-foot dive loop, a 72-foot incline loop and twisted double corkscrews.
“It’s really crazy cause you legitimately have to stand up to your fear to be able to ride this because it’s a stand-up roller coaster rather than sitting,” one rider said. “That makes it the craziest roller coaster on the planet Earth.”
There are some concerns from riders about its reliability since Kingda Ka, the tallest roller coaster in the world, has a reputation for being closed down more often than it is open.
One park official told 1010 WINS’ Alice Stockton-Rossini said Kingda Ka can’t operate in the rain because it can hurt the riders but — rain or shine — “Green Lantern” fans need not worry.
“Going 128 mph in the rain is kind of like getting shot with a BB gun in the face but that won’t happen on this one,” the official said.
The ride is named after the DC Comics’ super hero who has appeared in over 100 comic books since first being published in 1941. The “Green Lantern” feature film, starring Ryan Reynolds, will be released on June 17.
The “Green Lantern” coaster will officially open to the public on May 25.
