Police: Retired Florham Park Police Officer Shot During Attempted Robbery In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) – Police in Newark say a retired Florham Park police officer was injured during a shoot out in the city's Ironbound section.

It happened around 10:15am Thursday as police say the ex-cop was making a cash delivery to a bar when two armed men walked up and tried to rob him.

That's when the former officer pulled out his gun and traded shots with the suspects, wounding one in the leg. Police say the ex-officer was also shot. He was taken to the hospital but his injuries aren't life-threatening.

Police say one of the suspects took off in a car and the other on foot. One of the suspects was arrested nearby. Police are still looking for the second suspect.

The New Jersey Cop Shot program is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
