Wyckoff, New Jersey Fifth Grader Makes Plea To ‘The Boss’ In YouTube Video

WYCKOFF, NJ (CBSNewYork) – A fifth grader from Wyckoff, New Jersey is hoping an online plea to Bruce Springsteen will help make her teacher’s dream of meeting “The Boss” come true.

Eleven-year-old Macie Sparozic posted a video on YouTube begging Springsteen to come to her class at the Sicomac School to meet her fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Cordello.

“My teacher is Mrs. Cordello and she teaches her kids that they can make their dreams come true,” Macie says in her video.

Her teacher, Macie says, is a huge Springsteen fan whose love for “The Boss” has rubbed off on her students.

“She’s your biggest fan ever, she teaches us all your songs,” said Macie. “We take Bruce breaks from our studies and sing your songs. We even watch your videos on YouTube in class.”

Macie says Mrs. Cordello has been teaching for 25 years and if she had 25 students in class for each of those years, there are 625 new Bruce fans walking the streets today thanks to her.

But besides being the biggest Bruce fan ever, the soft-spoken fifth grader says Mrs. Cordello is nothing short of inspiring.

“She really is a special teacher and I want to make her dreams come true and have you come to her classroom and surprise her,” Macie said to Springsteen in her video. “Man, would I love to see her face when you walk through that door. She says no dream is too big so let’s prove her right.”

So far, her video has had more than 1,400 hits and viewers joining in, begging Bruce to make the trip to Wyckoff.

Do you think Springsteen will visit Mrs. Cordello and her class? Tell us what think in our comments section below:

What a positive lesson – if you have a dream, go for it! And if it’s a good cause, you will be amazed at your power to draw other people to help you. Good luck, Macie!

All you people with the negative comments should remember about your own childhood and a special teacher or person who inspired you to help others or better yourself. Maybe then you would stop being negative about Macie’s plea and realize that she is a motivated young lady who is not afraid to stand up and speak her mind. It is teachers like Mrs. Cordello who have helped mold her to be this very special young lady who is making a plea for another person, not for herself. Teaching a young person to act and be this way is the most important lesson ANYONE can learn in life. Go Macie!!!

So nice to see a child interacting with the world for positive reason.. how often does our news or media celebrate the wrong things, sins of the 10 Commandments.. Let’s celebrate a child’s hope to bring a smile to her teacher’s face, let’s celebrate one of the most amazing storytellers of our time, and let’s celebrate our community for showing Macie her voice is heard.

  • Jami Romaine

Holy Bananas your opinion about Bruce’s talent is irrelevant! This is all about a little girl who loves her teacher and wants to do something special for her. The world could care less about your opinion. Macie has put in so much effort and hard work to do something for someone else. Maybe you could take a lesson or two from her. You keep pushing ahead Macie!

  • Sherri C

holy bananas ~ Your entire comment is “duh on your part.” What does your opinion of Bruce or his music have to do with what this young girl is trying to do for her teacher? As another poster said, “if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it at all.”

A visit from Bruce might not be your dream – but that does not make her determination or good deed, or her teacher’s dream for that matter, worthy of your negativity.

(By your wonderful grammar, and punctuation, it seems like you could have benefited by a dedicated and inspiring teacher!)

  • Kathy Shadiack

Go Macie girl Keep on doing this!! You are doing such a wonderful thing for your Teacher! I hope someday all of your classmates learn from you to never give up on a dream!! i know that everyone loves you and is so proud of you! You are an amazing young lady who will go very far in this world!! Bruce hope you are following these articles. Help Macie make her Teacher’s dream come true! You remember what it was like to make your own dreams come true right? So this is something you have to do!! Thanks!! xo

  • rose desics

Go Macie!! It’s really great to see a student that wants to give back to a special teacher, Mrs cordello must be a very special teacher for her student to go through all this to make her dream come true, I hope it Happens

  • Norman Stern

I certainly hope Mrs.. Cordello gets her wish, and by extension Macie does also. What dedication to inpsire youngsters like that!

  • Susan

Good job Macie! I’m sure your parents must be vey proud of you for trying to do something good for someone else. Mrs. Cordello has obviously inspired your creativeness and independent thinking. I wish I had had such a passionate teacher who thought outside the box to make learning more interesting. Keep up the good work and I hope you and your teacher’s dreams come true. Never stop trying!

  • Irene

I think it’s wonderful that Macie is trying to do something kind and thoughtful for someone else…..in today’s “me, me, me” world, that’s quite refreshing, particularly for a child!!

I hope Bruce comes to your school and shows all the non-believers that dreams can and do come true.

I wish I’d had a teacher like Mrs. Cordello when I was in fifth grade!! And, I wish I’d had a good friend like you!!

    Go Macie!!!

  • Lisa

I don’t see how anyone could possibly think this is anything but a fun and inspiring act by someone of such a young age wanting to do something good for someone else. What is more important in life than being a kind, caring and giving human being? I’d rather my child learn those principles first, academics second.
GO MACIE, kudos to you for taking action instead of just talking about it. ! I hope your mission is a success!

  • Maryann

Way to go Macie!! Keep following your dreams!!!!!

  • Anna

    Way to go Macie. :)

Some of these folks need to learn that if they have nothing nice to say then they should not say anything at all. :)

Make it a great day everyone.

  • Beth Arp

Go girl, you can do it.

  • Amanda

Wonderful job Macie! Hope you can make your teacher’s dream come true. Bruce is the best so hopefully he will listen to your plea. Good luck!

  • Liz

Inspire-Dream-Such great qualities to get a student to learn! Go Team Macie!

  • figfii

    Awww, she is so cute!

  • Jean

    Way to go Macie!!

  • Ellie

Any teacher who inspires their students to learn and to be productive citizens is worthy of praise. Each teacher needs to do things differently, depending on the makeup of their class. Macie seems to be inspired, not only to be a productive class member, but to take her passion and work very hard to make it a reality. How many of us can say that?

  • Beth

Macie, I think that you are learning your lessons well! I applaud you for trying to make your teachers dream come true. She must be a wonderful teacher for you to do this. Every student should have that one teacher who not only teaches their students but inspires! I love how your passion comes through!

Good Luck Macie, I hope Bruce comes and surprises your teacher!

  • Sherri C

What a sweet and caring young lady! Macie – what a nice thing to do for your teacher – I really hope BRUCE is able to make both of your dreams come true! GOOD LUCK!

  • Lisa Vales

My hat goes off to Macie for having a dream and seeing it through as far as she did. Children should have dreams. I guess Clarion didn’t have any dreams to have such a strong opinion. I’m sure Mrs. Cordello makes sure she teaches her children what is required. It’s nice to have something above and beyond as well. Life is all about dreaming of what could be. Don’t ever let go of your dreams. Hold them fast. All the rest always falls into place. Keep dreaming Macie.

  • Dundee

Ouch that is lame, I am sure Mrs. Cordello teaches all the basic materials, but she is obviously helping her students learn through her own personal passion. Do you not understand that music encompases math and literature?

  • Nancy Gisser Meiselman

Way to go Macie! This is a great dream and I hope it comes true for you. But even if it doesn’t – never stop dreaming. There is a lot of learning in the journey of dreaming big. I hope you succeed and hope you keep on dreaming big dreams! Good luck.

  • Clarion

If this is what our children are learning, I think this sort of thing is the problem with our students today and why we are so often trailing behind other nations in educations scores. What about the love of reading, writing and arithmatic? I am sure Mrs. Cordello does something worthwhile, but this doesn’t seem to be it. Bruce, please go visit her, so she can start teaching her children important stuff.

    • Brooklyn McDirtyshoes

Maybe Mrs. Cordello should drop by your place and teach you about punctuation and run-on sentences. Any teacher that is inspiring this sort of passion from his or her students deserves to be commended.

    • Sherri C

Since when is teaching students that believing in your dreams and doing everything you can in life to make your dreams come true a “problem with our schools?” As Macie says – her teacher INSPIRES her students to believe in themselves, and teaches them that NO DREAM is too BIG! Macie – YOU ROCK!! Keep on trying to make your dream and the dreams of other’s come true!

    • Steve

      Well said, Clarion.

What the heck??? This is supposed to be newsworthy?

      • Julie

The kid is trying to do something special for someone who in her eyes is a special teacher! Give it a break….Some good news once in awhile isnt going to hurt anyone! by the way im sure you’ve read the articles about the world ending Sat. or the sky is falling………Smile and be on your way! have a wonderful, happy day!

    • CancerMom

While I understand your concern about what the children are spending their time learning, if you read what is in the article, the dances and songs are BREAKS during the day. I think it’s great way to incorporate exercise, music, and teaching about LIFE. Mrs. Cordello is clearly an experienced teacher who has found a creative way to let the kids get the restlessness out of their systems. Today, our kids don’t get a recess like we did 30 years ago; their only physical break in the day is lunch time. If communnities would approve the school budgets, the teachers could do more and our kids would be better off. It’s a partnership to raise a child. Kudos to the teacher for inspiring the children for LIFE.Kudos to Macie for taking action to make someone else’s dreams come true. It’s the energy and generosity of others that make so many organizations work – like Make A Wish, PTA/PTO, Camp Sunshine, Ronald McDonald House work.

      • jtorres

CancerMonm is right. Not only are the kids getting out their restlessness but it’s a proven scientific fact that music helps children with creativity and raises scores in reading and math, 2 of the 3 R’s. I think it’s also great that she’s teaching her students that there’s no such thing as too big a dream or trying too hard. It’s never to late to reach for the stars regardless of who you are
