Tequila Taco Truck Rolls Into New York City

By Selena Ricks-Good

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Given the number of new tequilas on the market, when a new brand launches, it's important to make a splash and stand out from the crowd. Familia Camarena Tequila, introduced to New York this month, is making its entrance with a crunch.

Beginning Wednesday, a Camarena taco truck will be making stops throughout NYC for six weeks, handing out tequila-infused tacos and other menu items created by chef Jesse R. Vega of Sueños Restaurant—for free.

"We can't give out free tequila as much as we would like to," said brand representative Kate Parrish. "We want to give people a fun and exciting way to experience the tequila and bring that family feeling that people can expect from the brand."

Tequila-doused menu items include pork tacos with pineapple salsa, chicken and cheese taquitos with guacamole, bbq beef tacos with charred corn pico de gallo and queso fresco, and dessert tostadas with plantains, dulce de leche, chocolate sauce and lime fleur de sel.

Familia Camarena Tequila is made from 100 percent blue agave and grown in the Highlands region of Jalisco, Mexico. The company traces its tequila-making origins back six generations. The brand expressions include a Silver and Reposado, and both retail for about $20 per 750ml bottle.

"Our tequila has a bit of a sweeter taste, coming from the highlands," said Parrish. "It has floral notes and less of that peppery burn that people expect."

The taco truck promotion is also taking place in L.A. and Houston. To find out where the taco truck will be in NYC, follow Camarena Tequila on Facebook and Twitter.
