Final JFK Terror Plot Suspect Convicted

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The last suspect in a scheme to blow up jet fuel tanks at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport has been convicted of participating in the failed plot.

Kareem Ibrahim was convicted Thursday of several conspiracy counts. Two other people were convicted last year of conspiracy charges and are serving life in prison. A fourth pleaded guilty to providing material support and was sentenced to 15 years. Ibrahim's case was separated from the others after he fell ill.

Prosecutors argued the men wanted to kill thousands of people and cripple the American economy by using explosives to blow up the fuel tanks and the underground pipelines that run through an adjacent Queens neighborhood. Defense attorneys argued the case was created by government intervention.

The imam from Trinidad faces life in prison.
