A Vacation In The City: Lots To See And Do On Governors Island
NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — If you decided to stay in town this holiday weekend but looking for an escape, Governors Island is open and officials say they expect a half million visitors there this summer.
Governors Island not only has some of the most stunning views of lower Manhattan, New York harbor and the Statue of Liberty, but this summer it hosts a remarkable sculpture exhibit by Mark Di Suvero.
WCBS 880’s Rich Lamb reports: Lots To See And Do On Governors Island
“Governors Island is a vacation in the middle of New York City where just a five-minute boat ride away, you really feel like you’ve left the city behind,” said Governors Island Trust president Leslie Cox. “And almost everything is free, that’s what make it so special. Whether you like history, green space, the Statue of Liberty, art or just riding a bike or taking a nap on a hammock.”
Cox says there are different things to do on Governors Island every weekend and free boats travel from both Brooklyn and Manhattan.
