NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- If you decided to stay in town this holiday weekend but looking for an escape, Governors Island is open and officials say they expect a half million visitors there this summer.

Whether you like history, green space, the Statue of Liberty, art or just riding a bike or taking a nap on a hammock."

Cox says there are different things to do on Governors Island every weekend and free boats travel from both Brooklyn and Manhattan.
