12th Grader Gabriel Gomez Named NYC Police Commissioner for a Day

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — One New York City student was declared Police Commissioner for a Day on Wednesday.

That distinction was bestowed upon Manhattan 12th grader Gabriel Gomez after he won an annual essay competition organized by the Police Athletic League.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and Gomez held a morning meeting inside 1 Police Plaza, where Gomez sat at the commissioner’s desk. Kelly and Gomez also had lunch together.

Gomez was also able to read his winning essay at a ceremony at police headquarters and joined Kelly after the ceremony to take questions from media.

Congratulations Gabriel Gomez! This is the first time (maybe ever) that a decent, intelligent, honest person held the position of NYPD Commissioner.
