Speeding Car Falls From Bronx River Parkway Overpass, Lands 22 Feet Below

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police at the New York City Police Department’s Transit District 12 weren’t dodging flying bullets on Saturday, but instead a flying car.

A speeding car fell from the Bronx River Parkway overpass, landing 22 feet below in the parking lot of the police station.

Police say around 7:30am, a 2005 Acura was traveling in the left lane of the Bronx River Parkway, heading north, when it lost control and swerved, hitting the concrete barrier that separated north and southbound traffic.

That collision caused the car to swerve across both lanes of traffic and through the ride side guard rail – and a chain link fence – before finally landing in the parking lot of the NYPD‘s 12th district station.

1010 WINS’ Steve Sandberg has more on the accident

“Yes, that’s surprising,” one witness said. “Usually I see the cops always walk over the side, but [luckily] no one was there.”

No one on the ground was injured, and the two passengers in the car walked away with minor injuries. The car partially landed on a GMC pickup truck, which is an officer’s personal vehicle.

Police say they think speed was a factor in the crash but don’t believe any charges will be filed.

The two passengers in the car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Bronx river parkway is like a rollercoaster. If the driver was driving the speed limit and his tire blew out, this is what would happen. But since you people are to stupid to bring that up, this will just fall on deaf ears. The only thing your posts say is ignorance. Enjoy the cheap life you have.

“Lost control”? How about just executing these bums before something else is lost. Like a human being?

Who wishes death on someone? Moron you might want to know the facts before you make assumptions of what occured. Ignorance should be your middle name…. I feel sorry for a.person as lame as yourself.

I agree with frustrated driver: the NYPD is apparently too stupid to figure out that dangerous driving is a crime, or else they know but are too lazy and complacent to prosecute it. Even in cases where reckless driving leads to death, like the wreck which killed the old woman in Harlem this week, the story will always end with “police suspect no criminality and no charges will be filed.” Because of this the culture of crazy driving continues unabated in NYC. I really wish we had a competent police department but alas, it is not so.

“Police say they think speed was a factor in the crash but don’t believe any charges will be filed”

Law enforcement isnt interested in bad driving here in NYC, this is why we continue to see these things happen. Bad driving is rewarded by no penalties. It will continue until LE decides to make it an item of interest. Driving is no longer something to be enjoyed…

i really thank god that they survived cause something like that would have turned out bad if you as me thank god they are alive.

I wish the speeder had died. The speeder who survived will speed again. Next time, innocents might not be spared from injury.
