NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police at the New York City Police Department’s Transit District 12 weren’t dodging flying bullets on Saturday, but instead a flying car.
A speeding car fell from the Bronx River Parkway overpass, landing 22 feet below in the parking lot of the police station.
Police say around 7:30am, a 2005 Acura was traveling in the left lane of the Bronx River Parkway, heading north, when it lost control and swerved, hitting the concrete barrier that separated north and southbound traffic.
That collision caused the car to swerve across both lanes of traffic and through the ride side guard rail - and a chain link fence - before finally landing in the parking lot of the NYPD‘s 12th district station.

“Yes, that’s surprising,” one witness said. “Usually I see the cops always walk over the side, but [luckily] no one was there.”
No one on the ground was injured, and the two passengers in the car walked away with minor injuries. The car partially landed on a GMC pickup truck, which is an officer’s personal vehicle.
Police say they think speed was a factor in the crash but don’t believe any charges will be filed.
