NEWARK, NJ (WCBS 880) – The City of Newark is getting ready to fight a long, hot summer of crime.
A spike in violent crimes since last year and fears of a hot summer to come in Newark, Mayor Cory Booker told the crowd inside Calvary Gospel Church the city will strictly enforce curfew laws.

“It’s time that we as a community take a greater responsibility for what is going on,” he said. “Children should not be on the streets after hours.”
Acting police director Samuel Demaio says they’re returning a helicopter to the air and putting cops back on foot patrols and says even lieutenants and commanders will go out once a week.
