Annual ‘Big Apple BBQ’ Block Party Fires Up Madison Square Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Madison Square Park will be on fire this weekend—and it has nothing to do with the rising temperatures.

The ninth annual Big Apple Barbecue Block Party will be held in Madison Square Park on Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. each day. The event aims to bring together the best barbecue chefs—known as “pitmasters”—and more than 100,000 barbecue enthusiasts for the two-day event.

Admission to the Block Party is free, but guest can purchases plates for $8 to sample the food prepared by the top pitmasters.

In addition to the food, guest will also get a taste of the Austin music scene with the live musical performances. There will also be seminars with the pitmasters, who will not only speak about but also cook their favorite recipes.

All proceeds from the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party will benefit the Madison Square Park Conservancy, which is an organization that supports maintenance and planning at the park.

  • Animals are us

I will just pray for the pig that he/she is in a better place.
I think it was the actor/director/writer Peter Ustinov that
said “Hell is when you come back and all the animals you have
eaten …come back to get you”

This is an amazing event for any BBQ lover. Have gone for quite a few years. The food is nothig short of amazing and for $8, you get nice sized portions. Warning though, be prepared to wait on some seriously long lines in the sun. There is no shade and the heat coming off the pits makes it crazy hot, but it is so worth it. Grab some grub, head into the park and listen to some great live music. All for free.
