Abandoned House In Exclusive Mamaroneck Neighborhood Condemned

MAMARONECK (WCBS 880) -- It's a snapshot of the housing market, an abandoned house in an exclusive neighborhood and now Mamaroneck is looking to clean up the mess.

In some ways, what happened in the Village of Mamaroneck reflects the overall state of the housing market.

For years now, an abandoned home has been rotting and crumbling on Orientor Avenue, an exclusive neighborhood of multi-million dollar homes near the Long Island sound.

Mayor Norman Rosenblum calls it the plywood house and it's just been condemned.

"You don't know who owned it, what happened, is it in the hands or owned by an individual," said Rosenblum. "Maybe something happened with the relationship with the people that owned it. Did someone buy it and they ran out of money? Is it owned by a mortgage company? But it defies logic."

The mayor says it's a fire trap, a safety concern and an eye sore and it's days are numbered.
