Back In The Bronx: Yankees Reacquire Sergio Mitre From Brewers

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Sergio Mitre is headed back to the Yankees.

The right-hander was traded from Milwaukee to New York for cash on Wednesday, two days after the Brewers designated him for assignment. The deal was announced after the Yankees beat Milwaukee 5-2 on Wednesday night.

Late in spring training, the Yankees sent Mitre to Milwaukee for reserve outfielder Chris Dickerson. Mitre went 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA in 22 appearances for the Brewers.

The move adds depth to New York’s banged-up pitching staff, though the Yankees expect to get Bartolo Colon and Phil Hughes back from injuries in the coming days.

Mitre will join the team on Thursday. He can serve as a long man out of the bullpen or make a spot start when needed.

Mitre pitched for the Yankees from 2009-10, going 3-6 with one save in 39 appearances, including 12 starts. To make room on the roster, the Yankees designated right-hander Buddy Carlyle for assignment.

Carlyle was 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA in eight relief appearances for New York. The team has 10 days to trade, release or send him outright to the minors.

The Yankees also purchased the contract of right-hander Logan Kensing from Bridgeport of the independent Atlantic League. Kensing, who pitched in the majors for Florida and Washington, will join Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Guess we do not have enough bad relievers in the Yankee bullpen. Yankees need a new manager and general manager. They both continue to make moves that hurt the team.

I am now totally convinced that Mitre is Girardi’s “mistress”. Mitre was with him in Florida as well as New York. He stunk in Florida. He stunk in New York. He has stunk everywhere he has been. Yet Joe still brings him back. Guess we do not have enough bad relievers in the Yankee bullpen. Yankees need a new manager and general manager. They both continue to make moves that hurt the team.
