1 Injured When Small Plane Crashes In West Milford

WEST MILFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Federal aviation officials say one person was injured when a small plane crashed Saturday afternoon while trying to land at a northern New Jersey airport.

The injured person, whose name was not released, apparently was the only one on board when the crash occurred around 12:40 p.m. at Greenwood Lake Airport in West Milford. After being extricated from the wreckage by rescue crews, the person was taken to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker says the plane apparently overshot the runway while trying to land and flipped over. But no information was available on the make of the plane, its owner and how much damage it sustained.

State police and federal inspectors were still at the airport in Passaic County late Saturday afternoon
