B&C Morning Show: Derek Jeter's Historic Blast, Christian Lopez's Historic Decision

After a much deserved week off, Boomer & Craig were back in the saddle this beautiful Monday morning and started things off by talking about a weekend that was made historic by the Yankees' captain, one Derek Jeter.

Jeter collected the 3,000th hit of his career Saturday afternoon in the Bronx, which came in the form of 3rd inning home run.   A historic moment indeed as Jeter finished off the day with 5 hits, including the game-winning knock in the 8th.

The pursuit of 3,000 has been a well documented journey that concluded with a strange twist, when 23-year-old Christian Lopez caught the historic blast and afterward elected to give the ball to Jeter for (close to) nothing at all.  Lopez was somewhat compensated by the Yankees with tickets and memorabilia, but his decision - although admirable - begs the question, what was he thinking?!

Boomer & Craig discussed Jeter's milestone hit, as well as Christian Lopez's puzzling decision.  They also praised the latest brilliant performance from CC Sabathia, who tossed a complete-game shutout in the Yanks' 1-0 win over the Rays yesterday afternoon.

Not to be left out, Yankees radio play-by-play man  John Sterling made his presence felt during the postgame on WCBS 880, when he got a little ahead of himself when talking about the magic number Jeter eclipsed during Saturday's 5-4 win...
