NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – The search for Leibby Kletzky continued Tuesday night more than a day after the 9-year-old boy from Borough Park went missing.  Two new surveillance videos are being seen as possible leads in the disappearance.

One video showed the young boy leaving his day camp, located at 12th Avenue and 44th Street, and walking past his home on 15th Avenue.

A second video, which was released late Tuesday night, showed the boy walking behind another man, according to police.  Investigators believe Kletzky may have gotten into the man’s gold-colored sedan.

Kletzky may have stopped to talk to a man and followed him in the opposite direction.  Tuesday, the boy’s father went with detectives to watch the video and confirm it was his son, CBS 2′s Sean Hennessey reported.

“We look at the possibility of foul play right from the beginning,” NYPD Chief Joe Esposito said.

CBS 2 has also confirmed that Congressman Jerrold Nadler specifically reached out to the FBI’s New York field office to request federal resources to assist in finding Kletzky.

The FBI has been deployed to the scene and is currently providing the NYPD with assistance, according to Nadler’s office.

Kletzky was supposed to meet his mother at 5 p.m. Monday at the corner of 13th Avenue and 50th Street after leaving day camp in Brooklyn, but he never showed up.

Since Monday night, volunteers organized by the Flatbush Shomrim — the Jewish community patrols — have fanned out from Borough Park looking for the boy.

Police also had a K-9 dog at the boy’s day camp, hoping to pick up the scent. But after heading in the direction the boy walked, the trail went cold. The community flooded the area with announcements, posters and volunteers in a desperate search.

“We’re concerned. We feel like its one of ours,” said Esther Mandel of Borough Park.

Kletzky had begged his parents to let him walk home, CBS 2′s Pablo Guzman reported.  They had given him a note, saying he would not be taking the bus. His parents are still waiting for their son’s safe return.

“I wouldn’t wish what they’re going through on my worst enemy — plain and simple,” Assemblyman Dov Hikind said.

It’s unclear if Leibby’s disappearance is suspicious, but residents said they’re not taking any chances.

“Everywhere, up and down the neighborhood, every single block, every park, and so have hundreds of others,” one resident told CBS 2′s Kristin Thorne.

At the day camp, people said the children were susceptible to suggestions from strangers.

“He respects everyone…if you would tell him, you yourself were to tell him, ‘I would like you to sit here until I come back’, he would sit down until you come back,” said Jacob Baskal of the Borough Park Shomrim.

1010 WINS’ Steve Sandberg reports: Thousands Fan Out Across The Borough

“We have 2,000 people searching for the kid. We went through every backyard, every front yard, every possibility,” search coordinator Shi Lichtenstein told WCBS 880′s Mike Xirinachs.

Steve Sandberg of 1010 WINS reported that the search included people on horseback as well as in helicopters.

Hikind also spoke with the boy’s family earlier and said, “They’re scared. They’re afraid. I tried to give them strength and told them to have faith in God.”

The boy is described as 4-foot-4, with dark hair, wearing black glasses, a striped shirt, and was carrying a knapsack.

A $100,000 reward is being offered for the boy’s safe return. Anyone with any information is encouraged to call either the police at 718-851-5641 or the Shomrim at 718-871-6666.

Tips can also be called in to the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS, submitted to the Crime Stoppers Website or texted to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

This is terrible! I feel bad for the boy and the family, hope they find him soon!!!

  • Shevy Friedman

An Amber Alert is only issued in event of an confirmed abduction. There is no evidence that suggests or can confirm this at this point.

  • SM

The reward is now $50,000 please help find him! we are all praying that he should arrive home safely.

  • daniela

shut up and have some respect.

    • watch your kids

Daniela truth hurts but it is 100% right Pick your child up and you will never have this happen.

      • heather

a nine yr old is old enough to meet a parent a few blocks away in day light!!!! to imply that the parent is at fault is very cruel

        • C

Heather – in this day and age, a 9 year old is still too young to be left alone in the streets of NYC. The news clearly stated that the little boy seemed confused and lost, so he WAS NOT ready to walk alone in the streets.

      • helvis

Another moron with all the answers.
Who ties your shoes for you?

    • hope they find him soon

Daniela, unfortunately that is the truth. We parents need to be more careful with our kids, even if the we feel the neighborhood is safe. You never know what loony might we walking the streets. Having said this, my prayers go to him and his family and friends. I can’t imagine how his family must feel at this moment.

How about not sending your nine year old kid to a camp? Spend some time with them in the summer. In this way, they won’t be so quick to ship you to a senior quarters in Miami when you turn 50.

      • Father of 9yr old

Unless you are still at the 9 year old level, kids don’t want to spend the whole day with you for 10 weeks. Nor is it healthy for the kid.

      • helvis

Another victim of what is generally called, “the dumbing down of America.”

        Congratulations…you’re a stupid ass.

  • muti

That’s a real cheap shot against a very religious and wonderful community, I get the feeling u don’t like the Hasidic community and trying to spread lies about the Hasidic community.
    Proud Hasidic Jew

  • muti

ur just flat out wrong, and ur trying to spread lies about the hasidic community.
the shomrim are working together with the police .

  • jtorres

When a child this young goes missing, it is not just sad and scary, unfortunately it suggests something sinister. Most 9-year-olds don’t just run away, especially when they know they’re going to picked up. I fear the child has not voluntarily disappeared and I pray that whomever has him will do the right thing and just let him go so he can be found and returned to his home

  • dVid

how much did you give u (edit)

The picture was not posted in the earlier editions of this article. I live in the neighborhood and got a robocall at 5:00 AM from the Shomrim society, the group that is coordinating the search, asking everyone to have a look around their property :( . Of course after that it was impossible to think of going back to sleep.

I saw this article at about 7:30 AM and at that time there was no picture yet, and that is why commenters who saw the article earlier in the day are asking about it. CBS added the picture later.

I was also surprised that there is no Amber Alert, at least not at 7:30 AM when I checked. But the search effort is being conducted by neighborhood groups that work very closely with NYPD, so I’m sure they are aware of the Amber Alert system. I don’t know why they haven’t activated it, or maybe they did by now.

Sweet little boy, this is so heartbreaking, When I got the call, I did go out to look around my backyard as they asked. It was so eerie, everything still so silent, still waking up to the day, and I knew that I was looking for something just indescribable. My heart was pounding and I don’t even know the family. I can’t imagine what they are going through.

I hope their little boy is found and returned to them safe and sound.

  • Saddened

Amber Alerts are usually issued when it is known someone has taken a child away by car. Here it’s unknown, so highway signs are not an automatic help. Unfortunately, a 9 year old boy may have run away from home, had an accident playing or even walking, or been kidnapped. The police and volunteers have been active long enough to suggest he was kidnapped; they’d have found the victim of a hit-and-run.

This is a nightmare for his parents and all the parents of the day camp children. All sympathy for them, and admiration for their immediate response in such numbers.

I just hope he is able to come hope tonight. He’s only nine.

  • JK Jamison

Amber alerts are only issued if there’s evidence of an abduction. That’s why there aren’t amber alerts for runaways.

  • Robert

My heart goes out to his Family. I pray is found safe.

  • watch your kids

If you ever walk or drive in this area you see the kids roaming freely parents need to keep a better eye on children.9 years old is still to young to walk alone if you are going to wait on a corner to pick up your child wait on the corner he is being dropped off at not on corner you live.

  • Someone in the know

Aside from being wrong in this situation, you are completely wrong in general. I know the Shomrim in both BP and Flatbush. They have close working relationships with the police precincts, and are together on almost everything they need to be. Your accusations are unfounded, and are simply an effort to besmirch a community. Shame on you.

  • joy flanch

maybe you should read the news better
his mother was waiting for him by the corner,
and in your camps would they look around the entire night for a small boy they don’t know?

  • Carlos Liriano

JUST HOPE THEY FIND THE KID SAFE AND SOUND, WITH DON’T NEED ANOTHER CASEY ANTHONY

  • Zoe C.

You should probably know what you’re talking about before you write so you don`t give over the judgemental, biased and stupid view you just did. . The police have been involved from the start and are overwhelmed and grateful for the help and manpower involved in the search. Instead of second guessing why don`t you do something productive like send god thoughts and wishes or even go help in the search.

THERE WAS NO PICTURE WHEN THIS ARTICLE FIRST WENT UPO THIS MORNING. THATS WHY PEOPLE ARE WRITING THAT. I SAW THE ARTICLE THIS MORNING WHEN IT WAS FIRST POSTED AND THEY DIDNT INCLUDE A PICTURE. THEY MUST HAVE ADDED THE PICTURE AFTERWARDS, BUT THERE WAS NONE WHEN THEY FIRST PUT UP THE ARTICLE

  • Kelly

Read. It says quite clearly that the NYPD were involved. Comments like yours, scream ignorance. Jews don’t have image problems, they are already hated. So the fact that they deal with situations within the community has nothing to do with image, rather it must be a social/religous issues.
NYPD if you would do some wikipediaing, works with the Shomrim, not against, not at the side, its team work.

  • dina

THEY ARE WORKING WITH THE NYPD (AS THEY HAVE BEEN THE ENTIRE NIGHT!!!) TO PUT AN AMBER ALERT OUT. They dont just put them out every time a kid goes missing for a few hours, but now that its been overnight it is much more serious and they are putting the amber alert out!!

At a time like this to speak badly of a community where so many have selflessly gone out to search the whole night!! How could you!? This community only needs all the good will you can provide at this time.

The community has problems – as any does – but give them a break!!! Look at how they rally together to help!?

  • joy flanch

i think you are 100% wrong i dont know if you saw the news or videos but their was over 25 cops by the commend center on 57 corner 15th AVE. i know this community for a long time i leaved in borough park for 25 years and they are a special people .
where else would you find over 2,000 people at 2:00 am searching for a missing boy you don’t even know!
think if it for a second you YOU go out for the entire night looking for a missing buy you don’t know you leaves a half a mile away or even more NEVER
so please think before you speak

  • GRobert Waldman

How can TWO of the readers of this article miss Leibby’s picture? Are they blind, stupid or did they fail to even look at the article before entering their comment? I hope he’s found safe and sound, but the longer it goes on the less likely that will happen.

  • GRobert Waldman

You are probably correct in your assumption and in the reason for it not being issued.

  • Rebecca
    • GRobert Waldman

There is also one at the top left of the article. A close-up of Leibby wearing a striped shirt!

      • Noah Zion

Amazing what a quick and thorough response from the NYPD for a child only missing for less than 24 hours. Anyone else would have to wait 24 hours from the last site of the person before even reporting him missing.

Once again, proof positive who runs this city.

P.S. I hope they find the kid safe and unharmed.

      • Jeff Rosen ret NYPD Sgt

Sorry Noah, I didn’t realize you were an EDP when I posted. The G-bldg is awaiting.

    • Jeff Rosen ret NYPD Sgt

To Noah Zion. Just to counter your stupid anti-Semitic remark, the NYPD has never had a 24 hour rule for missing persons. For children a search is started immediately and for adults the NYPD goes on a case by case basis. You watch too much TV.

      • Noah Zion

Don’t you dare call me antisemitic. Does Noah Zion sound Italian to you Rosen. This is just another idea of Talmudic Trickery on your part. You were never a cop and have no idea what is in the patrol guide. That I comment on the power of certain communities to sway the government in no way is antisemitic. Stop whining and take my observation like a man and without resorting to cries of biggotry.

The fact that those of your ilk immediately cry prejudice at any criticism only stregthens the case against you.

      • Debbie

Jeff, you are 100% correct. Noah, you are the one who is whining.

      • Moishe steinbaum

Noah we do run the city i amso happy to proclaim this l’
        chaim

  • Michelle

Wouldn’t it be a good idea for a missing person article to include a picture of the boy???

    • GRobert Waldman

Look at the top left of the article. You’ll see a fairly good close-up of Leibby.
