Connecticut Sun Sign Jessica Breland To Seven-Day Contract

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — The Connecticut Sun have signed 6-foot-3 rookie forward Jessica Breland to a seven-day contract.

The move, announced Sunday, comes two days after the Sun waived veteran forward DeMya Walker.

Breland was selected by Minnesota with the 13th overall pick in this year's WNBA draft and then dealt to New York. She averaged 2.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 7.7 minutes in nine games for the Liberty.

The former North Carolina star received the Honda Inspiration Award last month after returning to the court last fall following one season out while undergoing treatments for Hodgkin's lymphoma. She averaged 12.4 points and 7.1 rebounds as a senior for the Tar Heels.

The Sun (9-5) are in second place in the Eastern Conference, one-half game behind Indiana, and visit Chicago on Tuesday night.
