MoMA To Hike Admission Price Amid Rising Operating Costs

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — New York City’s Museum of Modern Art is raising the price of admission.

MoMA says it’ll hike the price of adult tickets starting in September, to $25 from the current $20.

It says the increase is needed due to escalating costs in virtually all aspects of operating the museum.

It will be the first admission fee increase since 2004.

Admission for visitors 16 years old and under will continue to be free.

The city’s Metropolitan Museum of Art recently also raised its suggested price to $25 from $20.

Will this admission change affect how often you visit MOMA? Sound off in our comments section below…

Shame on MOMA and the Met and other museums who continue to take advtage of the public by increasing thier admission price. When the newly renovated MOMA opened everyone said no one would pay $20 to get in, when tourists (who didn’t know any better) did then they all raised thier admission to $20. This time they let the Met take the risk and when people paid $25 SURPRISE the others now charge $25 too. In these tough times where a little art can help feed peoples ravaged souls maybe it’s time for the museums consider their visitors instead of their pockets.

Everything going up, except salaries and income, and if you do get a raise, it means nothing, because you have to spend it to do and buy the same things you did before at a higher price. I am willing to bet if everybody sits down and does some math, you are probably keeping less in your pocket today then you were 5 years ago even if you got a raise every year for the last 5 years. All smoke and mirrors. We are doomed as a country.

ironically, this offers yet another way to experience the modern ‘art’ of price hikes

I’ll just continue to go on when admission is free on Friday nights. That’s right, I’m cheap and I’m proud!
