NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Prepare to beam up.

In addition to being an actor, author, musician and—of course—commanding captain, William Shatner has a new occupation to add to his titles: documentarian.

Shatner produced and directed The Captains, which will be screened for free at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on July 30.

In The Captains, Shatner connects with the other actors who have portrayed captains on the various Star Trek series, as well as the only other actor to play Captain Kirk, the role that made Shatner famous.

In addition to interviewing the other Captains, the film will show clips of their performances.

Prior to the screening, Shatner will be there to speak about his experiences not only playing Captain Kirk, but also creating the film.

Additionally, fans are encouraged to dress up for a chance to win prizes, such as movie posters and The Captains commemorative T-shirts. One lucky, best-dressed fan will get to meet and take a photo with the original Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the event is first come, first serve. For more details or to see a trailer, click here for more information.

A free screening with people dressed in Star Trek uniforms? Sound great or sounds… not so great? Tell us your opinion in our comments section.

Moon Them

With Bill Shatner at the helm, is it any wonder rockets look like Phallic symbols, instead of the Starship Enterprise?
