Frank Borzellieri, Controversial Bronx Catholic School Principal, Is Fired

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A Bronx Catholic school principal who was the focus of controversy after a published report revealed his writings and views were tied to white supremacy has been let go.

Mr. Frank Borzellieri has been relieved of his position as principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School,” Archdiocese spokesman Joseph Zwilling said in a statement Tuesday. “This decision was reached following a thorough internal review of his opinions and beliefs as expressed in his books and columns, and a discussion with Mr. Borzellieri himself.”

“The decision was reached by Father Eric Rapaglia, pastor of the parish, in consultation with the Office of the Superintendent of Schools of the Archdiocese. Many of the opinions expressed by Mr. Borzellieri in his writings were found to be incompatible with the philosophy and practices of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, and with Catholic schools throughout the Archdiocese.”

Borzellieri had no comment. CBS 2’s John Slattery tried to get a comment from his mother, but Margaret Borzellieri would only say, “I have nothing to say. My son’s good. We wish you would leave us alone.”

Frank Borzellieri’s sister, Maria, defended him, telling Slattery, “He wrote these books a long time ago.  I don’t know who’d drag them up.  It has noting to do with the type of principal he is today.”

Borzellieri was hired as the principal of Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in 2009 by Rapaglia. The two had previously worked together at St. Barnabas.

In 2004, Borzellieri authored a book called “Don’t Take it Personally: Race, Immigration, Crime and Other Heresies.”

Borzellieri wrote “diversity is a weakness” and claims increasing black and Hispanic populations in the United States will lead to what he calls a “new dark age.”

Borzellieri has also written for the white supremacist publication American Renaissance.

“It offends me. I’m Puerto Rican and my children are half black — It offends me,” parishioner Ann Joseph told CBS 2’s John Slattery.

As a school board member in District 24 from 1993 to 2002, Borzellieri reportedly tried to ban literature he called “anti-American” which included a biography on Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and fire an openly gay teacher.

“Honestly, I don’t know how he managed to slip through the cracks,” Carol Ann Joseph said.

“It’s ridiculous, I can’t understand why the church would allow this,” a parishioner said.

A day after the report was published, churchgoer Juan Varela, of Queens, was arrested after interrupting mass Sunday at the church to call for Borzellieri’s ouster.

Varela was charged with disorderly conduct and possession of a weapon because he was carrying a knife.

Spokesman for the Archdiocese, Joe Zwilling, said there have been no complaints about Borzellieri during his two-year tenure at the school.

“The superintendent of schools office has been reviewing his books and discussing the matter with him and the pastor of the parish that hired him. The process is still ongoing,” Zwilling said.

The Archdiocese, which says Mount Carmel is known for its diversity, will now have to decide what the principal’s beliefs are regarding diversity and whether they conflict with church teaching.

We are all entitled to our individual beliefs…but let’s focus on the the impressionable students in this equation. All children deserve to be treated with compassion and respect! The educational leader of a school should see no color…just a clean slate
of great potential. There is no time for hate, racism and prejudice in the classroom!
Perhaps…he is a talented writer..but does that make him an open minded, positive role model for any children?

  2. Minister says:

this was nothing more than a character assasination by the daily news to sell newspaper’s and ferment racial tensions. The publisher’s of the daily news are quite aware that this mans book and articles (like their news stories) are protected under the constitution of the United States, the law of the land whether we agree or disagree with Mr. Borzellieri’s personal and political views pertaining to our nation, outside the classroom. In my opinion, The Roman Catholic Church had no other choice but to fire Mr. Borzellieri since they are a religious institution with their own set of rules and laws. I wonder how this would have played out if Mr. Borzellieri was a New York City school teacher ?

I just paid $22,87 for an iPad2-64GB and my girlfriend loves her Panasonic Lumix GF 1 Camera that we got for $38,76 there arriving tomorrow by UPS. I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $675 which only cost me $71,32 to buy. Here is the website we use to get it all from, MetaCent. com

  4. Pete Crawford says:

How old were the writings? The last two presidents admitted to indiscretions while in college. Many of us hold reponsible positions in life ttoday, but our past would not pass the smell test. Knowwhatimean?

  5. Tony. says:

Mr Borzellieri said that blacks commit more violence on whites then they do against each other in his book, of thats true then why should he be attacked for pointing out crimes against innpcent white people ?

seems the only people that can be attacked are whites these days, hate against whites is so kool to the racist.

  6. Patrick says:

If the writings in Mr. Borzellieri’s books were so terrible, which I doubt, then why was he hired in the first place? It seems like it’s politically correct to be pro-black. pro-hispanic, pro-gay, pro-Jewish, and so on but it’s a horrible offence against “diversity” to be pro-white or to recognize and appreciate the achievements of western civilization.

  7. Dunce says:

I notice that the so called white supremacist groups or publications were not named, could it be that that is just some race pimps designation.

    1. RichieT says:

That has one has nothing to do with the other. There’s a major difference between a persons right’s, and working for any religious organization, with, and promoting beliefs that conflict with the beliefs of that organization. They had every right him.

  8. Pat Johnson says:

This idiot teacher deserves at least to be banned from the USA
look at all the white racists writing here that think this sucker is
a good guy..perhaps he can to to the Vatican to preach his filth.
All of this is an outgoing backlash to Pres. Obama getting elected
from the Tea Party to dime a dozen racists ,this man being Italian-
American would be thought of as non white in many states in this country
just several decades ago. Phooey on him and the white racists.
Now I wonder why he was even given this job at the school that hired him?
Ever hear of background checks? The RC church again has been caught
    with it’s pants down .

  9. huh? says:

why would there be a gay teacher? A single woman isn’t allowed to be pregnant but there can be a gay teacher?

  10. LG says:

With all the publicity this pig is getting he might not need to work ever again. Just write stupid books that lots of stupid people will buy.

How cone this one did? You don’t like what I’m saying???

    1. wake up white man says:

no funding for Christian churces because they and government are
working jointly to import illiterate, unskillled 3rd worlders to the USA.
Better for the church to help people in their homelands.
Take your church donations and give it to pro white organizations
such as; (western voices world news) good one!!

  13. j says:

Borzellieri wrote “diversity is a weakness” and claims increasing black and Hispanic populations in the United States will lead to what he calls a “new dark age. This tells me how small minded he is. For an educated man. he sure thinks inside the box.

  14. Whats good for the goose says:

Look at all the affiliations of school teachers, scool administrators, ect.
If they associate with La Raza (the race)
    if they associate with NAACP
or any asian american pride group —-that individual should not be teaching in the US school system. (western voices world news)

    1. Cameron says:

Good for the Goose- you are in fact, entirely correct.

  15. Bill for NJ says:

typical, “Juan Varela” Juan Varela, of Queens, was arrested after interrupting mass Sunday….Varela was charged with disorderly conduct and possession of a weapon because he was carrying a knife.

Jeez, first thing to do is to not give Borzellier any more material.

    1. NJ Girl says:

Bill, I’m Hispanic and I thought the exact same thing. Our community has enough problems and people like Varela make it MUCH more difficult. If you don’t like people calling us out for negative stereotypes, then for God’s sake, don’t act like one!

      1. RicardoCabeza says:

        Hola mami, how you doing?

  16. Very conservative says:

And if this were a black or maybe Hispanic teacher it would be a non-story. So I guess it is only ok for such to be racist. By jolly, think I finally got it after all these years.

  17. Gina says:

What he doesn’t realize is that white supremacists don’t consider Italians to be “white”. When you consider the history of Italy’s invaders, the Moors, Arabs and a host of others, how can Mr Borzellieri rail against what’s in his own blood? It would be funny if it weren’t so sad.

    1. The Facts says:

Every human being has the same blood.

    2. John Marin says:

In some respects you are correcct. Even in Italy there exists much antipathy between Italians in the north who regard themselves as superiors from those of the mezzo giorno south whom they liken to Ethiopians. Whatever the case Italy is central to the Western Heritage because it was here in Latium that a people called Romans unified the Mediterranean and created a Latin Europe which by extension is found after 1492 in a Latin America. This man Borzellieri is a much confused individual the product of a provincial upbringing through no fault of his own.

    3. tony says:

Italians are white as any other Europeans and the invasion of so called moors was only in sicily. not all of italy. so get your facts straight, and Espanics are not latins of course unless they are Europeans.

  18. Steve says:

Ah – the dim-witted Borzellieri. Were it not for his offensive comments, maybe I’d think that this guy was a fill-in for one of the Sweat Hogs on Welcome Back Karter. I’m guessing that he doesn’t look sufficiently “Aryan” to move to Idaho, though maybe he can now run off and join the birthers.

Nice, for a change, to see the Catholic church cleaning up its act.

    1. It's Kotter, NOT Karter says:

You sir, are a major PUTZ!!! And not only because you got the name of the show wrong. How do you equate the state of Idaho with white supremacists? And what the hell do the birthers have to do with this? You know something, you are guilty of the same things that you decry. THAT IS WHY YOU ARE A SCHMUCK WITH EARS!!!

      1. pugphan says:

I dint know schumucks had ears…wow! smokersodysseycom

    2. RicardoCabeza says:

Steve you mental midget you are do the exact same thing you are accusing Borzellieri of doing, you realize that right stupid? man you idiots are nothing if not predictable.
