Smells Of New York City Compiled In Scratch-N-Sniff Book 'New York, Phew York'

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - New York City is known for, among other things, well, how do we say this, its scents - both the good and the bad.

36-year-old Amber Jones was walking home from work one day when she was inspired.

"I was like, 'Oh gosh, that pizza smells so good.' and right as a I was walking, I was wearing flip flops, I stepped into horse droppings," she says.

So, she decided to create a book called "New York, Phew York: A Scratch-N-Sniff Adventure."

It's the story of a family who comes to the city on a vacation and befriends the hotel concierge and they venture into nineteen different neighborhoods and encounter over twenty different smells.

"There's everything from hot dogs and cheesecake to garbage and sewer steam," she tells WCBS 880's Alex Silverman.

To make those smells stick to the pages, she needed some money. So, she posted the idea on Kickstarter.com, a website where anyone can fund creative projects.

"We were really nervous. We were in it for thirty days and we just made our goal on Saturday and I'm thrilled to pieces," she says.

She got $20,000 from 280 New Yorkers and now, any day can be garbage day (if you want it to).

Find out more about the book at its official website.
