Sailor Thought Missing Off N.J. Coast After Hurricane Irene Found Safe

CAPE MAY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Coast Guard officials in New Jersey have determined that a civilian sailor reported missing after Hurricane Irene passed through state last weekend is safe and doing well.

The parents of 23-year-old Falcon A. Riley had sent the Coast Guard an email Thursday saying they had not been able to contact the Maryland resident, who had last been seen at Cape May on Aug. 25.

Riley has been sailing alone for several weeks aboard a green-and-white 30-foot Hunter sailboat.

Coast Guard officials soon learned Riley had been in Wildwood on Tuesday and told a store owner he was leaving for Cape Cod, Mass., that day. They later located a friend who said Riley had told him he would be out of touch for about a week until he reaches Cape Cod.
