Osi Umenyiora Likely To Miss Opener, Week 2 For Giants

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora probably will miss the Giants' season opener against the Washington Redskins.

And according to the New York Post, Umenyiora may also miss Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams at MetLife Stadium.

"Probably not (going to be ready)," a source told the paper, "but we'll see."

Umenyiora had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Aug. 19, and coach Tom Coughlin said Monday the 29-year-old who is entering his ninth season with the Giants hasn't progressed enough to play.

"I don't think so," said Coughlin. "It's a little early."

Umenyiora was not on the field for practice Monday.

Fellow defensive end Justin Tuck didn't practice because of a stinger (neck) suffered against the Jets last Monday.

Coughlin isn't worried about Tuck, so expect him back on the field Wednesday, when preparations for the Redskins get into full swing.

Are you surprised that Osi probably won't be ready? Sound off below...
