Video: Fan Uses Illegal Stun Gun At Jets-Cowboys Game

59-Year-Old South Carolina Man Arrested, Hit With 5 Charges

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) Despite beefed up security efforts surrounding the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, a South Carolina man was arrested after allegedly using an illegal stun gun in a fight with other fans during the Dallas Cowboys-New York Jets game Sunday night, state police said.

Leroy McKelvey of Moncks Corner, S.C., was charged with three counts of aggravated assault and two weapons counts. The 59-year-old McKelvey was taken to the Bergen County Jail where bail was set at $22,500. It wasn’t known if he had retained an attorney.

MetLife Stadium CEO Mark Lamping said no one was seriously hurt in the incident.

There was an increased security presence at the game on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and Lamping said normal procedures for pat downs were “in effect at all entry gates.”

  1. Tom says:

Leroy truly had the right for any reason not to stand for the National Anthem. He lacked respect for others by not observing a moment of silence. The Marine in his own way had all the right in the world not to move out of the way to let Leroy out. This too showed disrespect on the Marines part. Leroy feels as though everything he did was OK. Count your blessing Leroy. Next time you may be bringing a taser to a gun fight. Remember that is your right to do so or die. Just as it is to the Marine to serve our country. Respect goes a long way … you give it , you get it. Semper Fi

  2. Mike says:

does it matter that the person he tased was a marine? hum, wonder if anyone changed how they feel now. the way it went down is the man with taser refused to stand ? remove his hat during national anthem. the marine got upset. man with taser tried to leave , marine wouldnt let him leave( looking for trouble). man with taser defended hisself. I was in a simular situation with a marine determined to fight me because i didnt think like he did. some marines are giving themselves a bad rep. I lost a lot of respect for all armed forces over my ordell an this didnt help any.

    1. Kinetic Gnosis says:

Only a true terrorist would pick a fight with a person like this. He needed to defend himself. The “soldiers” need to get off of their high horse. Imagine how they treat people in other countries.

      1. Alfred Haynes says:

Some people become soldiers so they can kill people and get away with. This marine sounds like a another government sponsored terrorist with a chip on his shoulder.

  3. Leroy McGinnis says:

    I’m stunned.

  4. CB says:

If I have to take a stun gun to protect myself from other fans at a game, I’m not going to the game! F the sports teams that charge ridiculous prices where you have to be worried about getting caught in a brawl with a bunch of drunk thugs!

  5. Anonymous says:

All the comments calling the media and government out are completely spot on and logically sound! Its a breath of fresh air to hear people recognizing the real from the fake. America is headed towards a police state totalitarian regime under something called the NEW WORLD ORDER, or NWO, or Oprah’s OWN network (nwo backward), or Novus Ordo Seclorum (on the back the dollar bill) Its time to wake up people we must stand up and fight for our rights. Give me liberty or give me death!

    1. Chris says:

LOL @ the fact you compared Oprah’s network a part of the New World Order. Now go back in your basement and wait for whatever disaster you are waiting for.

  6. Tim says:

The Idiot refused to remove hit hat during the National Anthem and Tazed a Marine. And you guys are treating him like a Frikking Hero what gives.

    1. JJ says:

The guy is a Jehovah’s Witness and its against his beliefs. He was simply practicing his beliefs. I don’t know much about their beliefs, but I guess I’m going to educate myself to find out.

      1. j.j. gonzalez says:

Hi J.J. dont go by what others say educate yourself. You will find that a true Jehovah’s Witness would never act in the manner this individual did. Jehovah’s Witness’es respect others and their beliefs!!! They would not be disrespectful while the national anthem is being played. The actions of this individual in NO WAY reflect the beliefs of a true Jehovah’s Witness……please do your own research….

    2. Chris says:

I know some people who were raised other than christian, who within there religion, does not recognize the national anthem…did u ever think about that?

  7. BOZO2 says:

Dont\’t let JW’s into football games.

  8. ReasonableDoubt says:

that’s good that it happened. I always bring my pocket knife in to every game i go to for situations like this when other fans want to act up. I bet the people who got tazed will learn their lesson now lol

  9. Robb Nunya says:

When tasers are illegal, only criminals will have them.

    1. Chris says:

no there not illegal to have! You must have never been down south!

  10. walter p cobb says:

please stop doing drop down add’s. They are annoying and make me not want to visit this site again.

  11. Hank Warren says:

Useless security, yet another violation of our rights. Add it to the list of gov’t violations of our rights:
They violate the 1st Amendment by placing protesters in cages, banning books like “America Deceived II” and censoring the internet.
They violate the 2nd Amendment by confiscating guns.
They violate the 4th and 5th Amendment by molesting airline passengers.
They violate the entire Constitution by starting undeclared wars for foreign countries.
Impeach Obama, vote for Ron Paul.

  12. elchiablo says:

I’ve seen the way visiting fans are treated at NFL stadiums. Bringing a stun gun to protect yourself does not seem all that unreasonable. I would never do it but I can understand why someone would. This assumes that one would only use it to protect themselves and not to cause trouble

  13. Yeah Right says:

Worst reporting I have seen this year!! Let’s see, get readers all excited by using keywords like illegal, taser, game… I would have actually liked to read some reporting about what happened to provoke the incident.

I have been to many NFL football games and most time the crowd is very well managed but there have been occasions where fans are out of control and “Security” is no where to be found. What if the 60 year old man’s wife was being harassed and physically assaulted by a 6′ 4″ 285lb, drunkard who just felt it was his time to tear into someone for the hell off it.

I bet the comments would have been a little different. As for me I would have not only congratulated the 60 year old I would have asked to borrow the taser and stick it on the drunkards neck 3 or 4 hundred times.

Sometimes people have to be able to protect themselves. States like NY, NJ, CA, MD, DE are irresponsible when they restrict a law abiding citizen’s ability to actively participate in their own self defense.

    1. CARLY says:

in ca, you can carry a taser, stun gun and mace, but in states like ny, you cant even carry that.

  14. Joe says:

Why is it such a terrible crime to protect yourself? Maybe the guy was at fault, if so he should be prosecuted for using the weapon, but not for having it.

People have to get it through their heads, police do not stop crimes, they investigate them. Police are really good at showing up 10 to 20 minutes after the incident and figuring out what happened and going after those involved. What they do not do is prevent violence.

Ask the Giants fan who was beaten till he had permanent brain damage outside a Dodgers game, or the Phillie’s fan who was beaten to death.

When a man enters a stadium he carries two fists doesn’t he? Fact is that gate security cannot make a man leave his capacity to kill at the door, they all carry it in. The question is whether honorable men ought to carry the means to defend themselves against this kind of senseless aggression. The writers of the constitution certainly felt so.

Stop vilifying men who do their duty by being prepared to defend others against evil men.

    1. MorganGray says:

      Joe, all true.
A few years back the family of a murder victim tried to sue the police department for not showing up in time to stop the murder. The judge threw it out saying “the police have no responsibility to protect you.”
The first line of defense is awareness, the second is at the ends of a man’s arms – his own two hands, be they empty, or filled with a big chunk of ordinance steel.
Walter Williams once put it this way:
“Buy a gun. Learn to shoot. The cops can’t protect you.”

      1. shooter says:

There are actually quite a number of cases in which victims (or their survivors) have sued police departments for not protecting individuals. All have been thrown out for the same reason – there is no obligation for police to protect each of us from harm. Only WE have that obligation, therefore we should also have the means to do so.

      2. Scudbuster says:

Get a Glock – and be ready to rock!

    2. Yeah Right says:

Joe…. Your comment was right on. Nice job!!!

  15. Joe says:

  16. Vic Livingston says:

Sorry, but this smells like another manufactured “psyop” (psychological operation), staged to help justify the huge expediture of labor and treasure on homeland security and to reinforce the homeland-military-corporate complex’s meme: “be afraid, be very afraid.” Take a look at that video again; something very contrived here…

    1. Vic Livingston says:

Addendum: If it’s planted on Drudge, it’s probably a psyop!

  17. sean says:

    i smell a lawsuit coming!

    1. Ranger01 says:

With the latest news of people being beat up and robbed, and security not being there, people have no confidence of being safe. Why not let stun guns in? Maybe the thugs would be less empowered? The thugs will be armed. If the stun gun is used out of anger, then bust them and lock them up.

  18. Goeorge says:

I think you tin foil hat fell off. Please go crawl back under you rock.

    1. Dog says:

You can’t even spell your own name. Why would anyone listen to you?

  19. Jerry says:

It would be easy to bring a stun gun, or any gun for that matter, into any event, be it a sports game or a concert. Security is very lax at these events and sometimes it is non-existant.Face it, we all need to be our our security at all times. Don`t be fooled into thinking a couple of guys in a uniform, who probably had very little training, are going to keep you safe.

  20. stromm says:

Stun guns are not Tazers. This guy had a stun gun, which don’t even look like a gun. Tazers look like guns and shoot wired-barbs. Stun guns look like a remote control and have to be pressed against the target.

I’d like to know why he felt the need to USE the stunner. That’s the story we should be hearing/reading.

    1. MorganGray says:

But, much like “frisbee” and “kleenex” the word “tazer” or “taser” has come to mean any electric or electronic self defense device.

    2. Klaus says:

Notice how when it’s a REAL event, the dinosaur media never gives you the details.

But when it’s a staged terror false flag event, like 9/11 or the Underpants Bomber or OK City, etc., they release all the scripted details immediately.

Remember this, as your government is salivating to stage another terror event on us.

  21. David says:

The story this morning is that a marine asked him to remove his hat during the national athem. He refused. Not sure what happened next.

  22. yankeefan says:

Yeah, I always bring my taser to church, sporting events, kids birthday parties, whatever. The missus carrys an RPG in her “holster” You never know

    1. 2XS says:

yankeefan…I’d love to see what you’d do if you had a firearm pointed at you. Soiling your panties and cowering in a corner would be my guess.

  23. KPMc says:

Didn’t you hear? Rex called for neanderthal Jets fans to fight loser Cowboys fans.

    The class of the NFL!

Didn’t Jets fans get alcohol banned from night games more than 20 years ago when they set fires and peed on Mark Gastineau’s wife?

I guess they are crying out for help.. and another ban.

  24. John says:

No they’re not. The dude in jail is the loser.

  25. tsimitpo says:

The underwear bomber was perfectly staged to usher in the body scanners that had already been ordered. This has eerily similar potential ramifications when it comes to all events at sports stadiums. Seeing history repeating itself from a German perspective…

    1. Jones says:

And I guess US Govt planned 9/11? Time for you to take your meds.

      1. Patriot says:

Yes some kind of government/intelligence agency did. WAKE UP SHEEP.

      2. Bumper Press says:

People who a have weak argument almost always try to make make a point with insults and character assassination. Covert intelligence agencies within the U.S. Gov’t planned 9/11. There will be a new 9/11 investigation and the whole truth will finally be told.

      3. JohnRingaux says:

When will that grand revelation occur, Patriot and Bumper Press? I want to be sure not to miss that edition of Looney Times.

      4. Ralph says:

Nobody can tell me what Bill Clinton’s roll was in 9/11. When somebody can explain that to me, then I might be inclined to believe the conspiracies.

    2. truthseek101 says:

Jones, you are slowly losing ground. Time toy wake yourself up. They have been lying to you. The truth is simple. 911 was planned. too much evidence has been brought to life.
Bumper Press is 100% correct. No one can ever argue the facts, just character attacks and insults. It is because you can’t fight logic and truth. It always rises to the surface. There are people of all ages and walks of life that know this.

Jones, you are the old way. The way of ill logic, and deciet. We are the new.

  26. katz says:

Stadium security is brain dead. A friend always brings in beer because he is not spending $7/plastic bud light bottle. He has absolutely no problem getting a six pack through security. I am capable as well.

    1. Klaus says:

Drink your own beer in America? How terrorist of you. Think of all the big multinational corporations you’re cheating. Their CEOs need the money to donate to Obama, Perry, and Romney while your jobs get sucked away by NAFTA and GATT.

  27. Dan Stone says:

When I first saw this headline the first thing I thought was ‘well yeah, the Jets did sign Plaxico Burress didn’t they?”

  28. Shane in Austin says:

Tasers are legal almost everywhere but NJ. You have to have a background check to activate it and confetti with your serial number flies out all over if used. Trying to paint this man as a sneaky thug is shameful. A taser at a football game is not a big deal, but of course they’ll try to ruin this guys life like they did the guy with the gun legally in his trunk. Stupid do-gooders.

    1. do-gooder says:

      Stupid Shane

      1. Smaller govt. is better govt. says:

Intelligent, thoughtful, knowledgeable comment by Shane. Reflexive name calling with zero substance response from d-g. I’m surprised you didn’t unleash your other brain cell and just say “yo mama”.

      2. Dog says:

Why is it people who don’t care about freedom ALWAYS go straight for the insult.

Didn’t you hear about the $14,000 Billion dollars of American money the Federal Reserve gave to wall street in 2008?

They are robbing you blind. Good luck retiring chump

  29. stanley says:

What a bunch of lowlifes and losers. I say taze them all!

  30. mhs2xs says:

    How right you are

    1. joe says:

only jet fans! they r LOSERS!

  31. Robert Zafft says:

The main purpose of stadium security is to prevent you from carrying in your own refreshments so you have to spend $5 for a hot dog and $10 for a beer

  32. salem says:

a muslim could have snuck in a bomb what good is secruity if they dont check the people?????????//

    1. anothervoter says:

So what you’re saying is only Muslims carry bombs?

      Or are you trolling about?

      1. Matt says:

I am saying that it is Muslims we need to look out for.

Common Sense. You buying into the Political Correctness? It will be the death of the U.S.

      2. MorganGray says:

Ummm….. anothervoter? So, how many blond-haired, blue-eyed, Swedish, Lutherans flew airplanes into buildings on 9/11?
Or murdered people at Fort Hood?
Or blew up trains in Spain
Or blew up buses and subways in England?

      3. JJ says:

Its funny how there’s a bunch of sick people of all backgrounds who do a bunch of sick things, but when they are co-called muslims, thats when folks care about religion. When they are not so-called muslims, the news doesn’t focus on religion. In the news this week was a caucasian woman who was arrested for molesting her 10 month old son orally. The news never mentioned her religion. cant believe they left that out! I’m going to contact the news people and demand to know her religion!

  33. jerrykregle says:

Thats nothing ive seen a whole keg of beer brought into the Dawg Pound
and I myself have snuck in a pint or two of Jack D to a game

    1. RufusVonDufus says:

      Typical drunk Klowns fan!

  34. George Buckner says:

Did the TSA provide the stadium security?

  35. brotherd says:

Is it me or is stadium security a joke?

    1. Klaus says:

The bigger joke is you Americans surrendered your freedom for that security long ago. It is as if “Bin Laden” knew the American people would lie down like dogs and let strangers grope their 6 year old daughters and sell their souls for 3 oz. shampoo.

  36. Al Jay says:

Taze Romo, may be it will wake him up.

  37. J E T S jets jets jets says:

wow that video really clears up everything

    1. KC says:

No doubt. All I could see was sparks from a stun gun. No clue who was doing it, why they were doing it, or who was getting zapped.
