NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police have released new surveillance video related to a string of Brooklyn sex assaults that have taken place this year.

At a safety meeting on Tuesday night, fed-up Brooklyn residents got an update from police on the recent rash of sex assaults. A local precinct commander said there have now been a total of ten attacks on women, one of which resulted in an actual rape.

Police first thought there was only one attacker, but now, believe there are at least two. Some at the meeting suggested police hadn’t been responsive until community outrage grew.

However, police disagreed saying the attacks got the attention they deserved from the beginning.

Police said they have upped the numbers of uniformed and plain-clothed officers on patrol, continue to hand out flyers and sketches and follow up on the many leads they’ve received.

Police describe the suspect as a white or Hispanic man, who is about 28 years old.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).  The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
