NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Living up to the reputations of older siblings is hard enough for normal folk, imagine what it’s like when your older sister is Lady Gaga.
Natali Germanotta, student at Parsons The New School for Design and sister to the controversial superstar, spoke with Teen Vogue this month to tell us that as an up-and-coming fashion designer she’s not looking to cash in on her sibling’s celebrity.
Right, because other first year design students get interviews in Teen Vogue.
Surprisingly, Natali admits that she doesn’t always agree with her sister’s – let’s say, unique – wardrobe choices.
“Some of the stuff she wears I’d be like, ‘No, never,’” she told the magazine.
She even uses her sister’s fashion choices as a way to defend her own to her Catholic family.
“Whenever I wear something crazy and my dad gives me a hard time, I say, ‘Well, at least I’m not walking out on the street with red pasties,’ and he’ll be like, ‘Good point.’”
Wondering about the now-famous flesh-colored unitard and rhinestone beekeeper hat that Gaga famously wore to Natali’s high school graduation?
The young Germanotta was all for it.
“She asked me, ‘Should I dress really conservative and look not like myself, or should I do it over-the-top and freak everybody out?’ And I was like, ‘The latter, definitely the latter.'”
For now you can see Natali in Gaga’s ‘Telephone’ video, or studying hard in the classroom. Natali says that right now her first priority is school.
“For me, college is less about getting drunk and more about learning what you need for your career.”
Baby Gaga, a role model for the ages.
