Windows on the bus shattered when the bus struck the low-hanging branch shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Westport police said eight of the students on board had minor injuries such as scrapes and bruises.

Westport police Sgt. Jill Ruggiero says on impact the branch broke three of the school bus windows, sending flying debris inside the bus.

She says the injured children were treated at the scene. The students were released to their parents or school officials after being evaluated.

In all, 36 kids were on board.
