Convicted L.I. Shoplifter With Heart Disease Sentenced To Prison After Latest Incident

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A convicted Long Island shoplifter with end-stage heart disease was sentenced to 27 months in prison after her latest run-in with the law.

Diane McCloud cried
as she sat in a wheelchair before the judge in Mineola, knowing her last chance was now up.

McCloud was released from jail in January to try to get a life-saving heart transplant, but she was already caught once violating the terms of transplant program by smoking cigarettes.

Now, the Hempstead woman has been caught shoplifting three times in recent months.

Her attorney Leonard Isaacs said the new sentence by the judge amounts to a death sentence since she can no longer pursue a heart transplant from behind bars.

He also lamented that McCloud came so close to having the procedure done.

"We were at one point about two weeks away from Diane getting on a heart transplant list," he told 1010 WINS' Eileen Lehpamer.

Back in January, McCloud was set free by a judge while serving 15 months in a Nassau County jail so she could get a heart transplant screening.
