Giant Pencil Disappears From Waterbury Mayor's Campaign Headquarters

WATERBURY, CT (WCBS 880) - A pencil is missing from Waterbury, but it's not your standard no. 2 pencil.

It's a giant six-foot-long, yellow, plastic pencil given to Waterbury mayor Mike Jarjura after his historic write-in victory in the city's 2005 mayoral election.

"This happened to be presented to me by my father and family the night of my inauguration at the Palace Theater. So, we would obviously love to get it back - no questions asked. No harm, no foul, so to speak," said Jarjura.

The mayor says anybody stealing the pencil would have to go to a great deal of effort since it was bolted on to a sign at his campaign headquarters.

It disappeared over the weekend.

This pencil means a lot to Jarjura so to the person who took it, he asks, "Leave it at the door of the headquarters, probably when it's closed at night, and we'll find it the next morning and we'll all have a smile on our face."

The campaign headquarters is located 130 Scott Road.
