Police: Suspect Tried To Rape 12-Year-Old After Offering Her Office Job

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police say a man believed to be in his 50's lured a 12-year-old girl into an empty office in Midtown Tuesday and tried to rape her.

Authorities said the incident happened inside 28 West 44th Street around 5 p.m. on Tuesday.  According to police, the suspect offered to get the victim a job in an office.

The two met on an F Train coming from Brooklyn earlier in the day, it's not clear whether they spent the day together or whether they met later outside the building, 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reported.

When both the suspect and victim were inside building, the suspect allegedly pulled out a pair of scissors and attempted to rape the young girl.  The victim was able to escape the office and notify authorities.

The suspect used another exit to flee the building, police said.

The suspect is described as a white male, between 50 to 60 years old, 5'9'' and 180 to 200 pounds.  Police said he is bald and was wearing black shorts, a dark long-sleeved shirt and carrying a backpack.

Police have released a surveillance photo of the suspect in hopes that someone can identify him.
