Rutgers' Jones Earns Big East Special Teams Award
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Brandon Jones of Rutgers has been named the Big East Conference's special teams player of the week for blocking a go-ahead field goal attempt by Navy with 4:43 remaining.
Jones' block preserved the Scarlet Knights' 21-20 victory, their fourth straight.
It marked the fourth consecutive week a Scarlet Knight has won one of the league's awards. Receiver Mohamed Sanu won the offensive award Sept. 26. Linebacker Steve Beauharnais won the defensive award and Jamal Merrell took the special teams honor two weeks ago and cornerback Logan Ryan won last week.
Rutgers (5-1, 2-0) will play at Louisville (2-4, 0-1) on Friday.
