Two Wrecks On Cross Bronx Expressway Leaves 1 Dead, Another Injured

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating two multi-vehicle wrecks Sunday morning that left one woman dead and another seriously injured in the Bronx.

It happened just before 6 a.m. on the westbound side of the Cross Bronx Expressway east of exit 5A.

Police say a Chevy Venture was headed west when it got into a wreck with several other vehicles. When a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man got out of the Venture to look at the damage, that's when police say a second multi-vehicle wreck took place.

Police say the man and the woman were both hit by a Toyota Corolla. The impact threw them over the barrier before they fell 75 feet to the ground below.

The two were taken to the hospital where the woman later died. The man is in critical condition.

Police are still investigating.
