Former Husky Star Kevin Freeman Joins UConn Staff

STORRS, Conn. (AP) — Kevin Freeman, who helped lead Connecticut to its first national championship in 1999, has joined the Huskies basketball staff.

The school announced Saturday that Freeman, a former UConn captain, has been hired as UConn's assistant director of men's basketball administration.

Freeman was known for his tenacity on the court and finished his UConn career with 1,476 points and 913 rebounds. He also played 11 seasons of professional basketball in Italy, Australia, Greece, South Korea, China, Puerto Rico, Spain and Venezuela.

Coach Jim Calhoun said Freeman is the type of person he'd like his current players to emulate.
