Angie Carpenter Accuses Steve Bellone Of Playing Politics In ‘Santagate’

HAUPPAGUE, NY (WCBS 880) – Babylon town supervisor and Suffolk County Executive candidate Steve Bellone stepped in last week to save Santa Claus from budget cuts.

WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs On The Story

Bellone, a Democrat, wrote the $660 check to pay for David McKell’s services.

Now, Angie Carpenter, the Republican candidate for County Executive says her opponent owes the public an apology for, “using Santa Claus as political scam.”

“They create this scam of Santagate, you know that Santa is being fired and he rides in on a horse as the white knight and saves the day,” Carpenter told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. “This is not appropriate.”

Bellone hasn’t commented on the allegation, but a spokesman for his campaign called the charge phony and a last-minute act of political desperation.

Meanwhile, Carpenter says she’d rather be discussing other issues.

“This is a time for the people, not politics,” said Carpenter.

the guy has hijacked Santa Claus to get elected…and they think Angie engaged in a “last minute act of political desperation”? what a farce!!!!! if his wife wasn’t on the Suffolk County payroll maybe he couldn’t afford to pay Santa!

  • maria

Nice of them to leave out that his wife is a Deputy of the County Parks Commissioner who brought it to the County’s attention that the County couldn’t afford to pay him! And this is who we want as County Executive???? Big Tax Bellone strikes again!!!!

Why can’t Santa just do it for free?

    • Nick

That’s way too much common sense. You should be censored soon by the libs here at CBS.

Christmas Spirit is ALL about the Money. Not that stupid Jesus thing.

  • Richard Wyman

The candidate’s wife is the Parks commissioner who fired Santa. It’s funny how that gets left out of the story.

I’ve learned three things from this news item…

    – Angie Carpenter hates Santa Clause.

    – Paying this guy $660 would have bankrupted the County.

    – I need to hire a moving van.

  • lynn
